I have known many people who complain and some have moved away, but most come back. It seems there are worse places out there.....
The biggest complaint is the weather. Sure it rains here, but we get less rain than many eastcoast and southern states get. Our temps are also more moderate, so you can do stuff year round. You just need to have the proper gear. When it is raining in the valley, it is most likely snowing in the mountains, so rain is a good thing if you are a snow sport enthusiast. Another big plus about the rain is it creates are beautiful forests, rivers, and lakes. Without the rain, Western Oregon would not be green. But, when July comes around, you can basically count on not seeing rain until late September. And the summers are not very humid (20-30%). it is a great place to live!!! |
I certainly agree with you, PDX - even though I am still too new to have a valid opinion.
Truth is, I was used to running into Oregonians in other parts of the country. Folks who had lived here for long periods and then, moved away.
Ever notice how people from some states seem to always be negative - and so one might decide that the place they come from must also be negative? That's how it was with me - I'd run into Oregon folks who had moved elsewhere - and they were generally always bummed out. Thought the whole state must be that way. I was wrong. These are some nice folks - seemingly real as can be. Suppose those I met might have been malcontents in the first place.
