There was a time when Mexico and El Paso offered each other the best of themselves, and the cultures thrived, now that is not the case. Now they seem to offer only the worst. I have many hispanic friends, and they will tell you as I will that the state of the area has declined. The city breeds mediocrity.
People scream they want something and when it is deliverd they fail to support it. Rock concerts and the like skip past El Paso for this very reason.
It has gotten so bad here to work at the McDonlads you have to speak spanish... no jobs pay a living wage here, most people in high paying jobs here are paid far less than they would be else where in th country. We have a growing crime problem, and it will get worse as the CAV ( military ) come. The city is and will not be prepaired for the sheer numbers of them. I am sure in the long run 5-10 years down the road the city will begin to benefit from the growth due to the militray expansion here, but at first there will be much chaos. Bar fights will rise due to the new population of soldiers to civies ratio.. As a former security/police officer on post, I can tell you from first hand knowlegde how bad it will be, and how bad it has been. And that was with a small margin of new soldiers here a year before being sent over to IRAQ. When the full brunt of them start to flow in this cities traffic, and schools will all suffer. Crime will rise, and there will be a time of unbalance as the city and the military find thier footing.
The city is growing.. I have seen many white people pack up and leave, many I know due to the border being over run. I know of 2 displaced black families from New Orleans that has packed and left here saying they would rather live in a cess pool than live in El Paso. That says something about the city.
Dont get me wrong El Paso is home for me, I was born and raised here. I will miss the mountains, I will miss the really huge flag that flys not to far from my home I wake to see each day. I will miss some of the people, And the poppies in the spring. But there is far more I wont miss, and know that unless someone pulls the collective head out of the collective ass here, this city is headed to a very bad place. The climate is not bad either.. but I like a lil more rain and a lot less sandstorms.
If you like the color brown... brown grass, brown water, brown dirt, brown people, brown everything then El Paso is the place for you.
I like green. Green grass, Green trees, green people. ( im irish after all ). I like rain, and life.. and El Paso, just doesn't seem to offer that.
But if I was to keep this simple.. this is why I dislike El Paso TX.. The city breeds mediocrity.
