Some of our seniors make the trip to Salem once or twice a month - special dietary needs and such. There's also a Winco at McMinneville which is closer than Salem.
The Mrs and I eat out quite a bit so our food expense for the home goes down and we don't have a lot of spare time so the free time we do have is usually taken up with walks on the beach and the occasional drive to Newport for (for Pete's Sake!) WalMart! As much as I've always hated WalMart, here we are stuck with that as the only place to grab a shirt, shoes, pants, etc ... unless we wish to go to the much hated Fred Meyers - which we don't, we make do with what the town offers and if we have to go to Salem or Portland, make a stop on the way back. I wish, if WalMart were the only place that they'd at least build a super-size one - although McMinneville has one of those as well. Lowes is also in McMinneville as is the nearest Shari's restaurant is we want a break from Richens here in town - which is currently the best food in town. Breaking News: A place called "Dory Cove" was apparently the best food in town - but it had burned down before we came. Very soon, two of the three partners will be opening "Captain Ron's" at the south end of town - which reportedly will have a similar menu with the same recipes.
Again, thanks for the tips. I hope to make my special Chile Verde soon.
