Favorite city: Austin (duh)
Worst city: Waco

Best small towns: almost every town in the southern half of the Hill Country. Too many to list, but some have been mentioned like Frederiksburg, Boerne, Bandera, Blanco, etc.

Worst region: the western Panhandle and the Permian Basin. Midland/Odessa, Pecos, Lubbock, etc. Absolutely dreadful topography and a complete absence of aesthetics.

Nicest surprises: Crockett and Nacogdoches. Took a road trip and spent a night in each of these cute towns. I especially like Nacogdoches because the university there lends some vibrancy to the place, whereas Crockett is just a pretty place that's kind of falling apart.
