People go offshore. In fact, many boats go between Portland and the Puget Sound area all the time. The Columbia River Bar is known as the "Graveyard of the Pacific" as it is the most dangerous bar crossing in the World. I have not crossed it, yet. I have seen a few cats out during the summer and many lasers and 49'ers that you get wet as well. The Columbia River is around 79 degrees in the summer, so it is okay to get in the water.

We are actually in the process of trying to sell our boat and upgrade to a bigger one. :)
