In Fairbanks during the winter some people actually DO use the outdoors as a freezer. I've known many a college kid to hang food outside their window because their dorm fridge didn't have enough room, or they didn't have one at all. And one guy I know has a trunk he sticks outside full of frozen food. Doesn't work in Anchorage, though- sometimes it gets above freezing here.
Funny, those are the four seasons in Alaska, too.
