In the SW part of Wyoming, it's always a guess if that big storm coming from the west is going to start dumping around Salt Lake and white-out the SW region - or, if it's going to zoom dry over the mountains and dump in Colorado - thus saving SW Wyoming from heavy snow ... but also condemning it to a longer cold spell as it usually has to warm-up to snow. Seems there's always a few surprises left this time of year.
I like the part near the Utah and Idaho borders when the frozen lakes start to thaw and the ice breaks up into giant, floating chunks in Spring. At this time of year, you can watch the bald eagles perching on the ice-chunks, watching the water and grabbing a meandering fish now and then - some days there seem to be dozens of eagles. Spring also means that soon, the elk and moose will be wandering back up the mountain so that sightings of them become more rare with each week until Fall but it also means the antelope come back into the forever-pastures - and soon, it'll be time for those kites with 60lb test-line that we hear so much about!

Thanks, the day after you wrote that, we got high winds, heavy snow, power was out for a while. I-80 and I-25 was closed for several hours here in Wyoming. But the typical national news said, "Colorado and Kansas got hit with another snow storm and parts of I-70 were shut down." Never mentioned us. Course, that could be a good thing.

Hey! where's FEMA? We was without power for 2 hours! Where's my trailer? No not that one, I want the one with an ice maker......
