Of course I have satisfied all my Florida requirements, but I have lost my licence for 1 year. I know a DUI is a bad thing and I'm very embarresed and this will never happen again. I would like a drivers licence again, even if I have to move.

I think Alabama and Florida share driving records so that might not work. I think suspending a drivers license creates more problems then it solves. In this day in age it is extremely difficult for people to not be able to function without a personal vehicle, especially if you live where public transportation is next to nil. You're already paying about $2000 for the offense and they want you to give up your lively hood too. You should check with the DMV and see if they offer a special license that will allow you to drive back and forth to work and school. I know GA has a license like that. Good luck.

There is reciprocity between the states, but I don't think they can 'share' records under current law. Try to take the test and don't mention you lived in Florida...you can say you've been overseas on an international license, and just returned after 10 years.....just provide identifying persona info...birth, etc....take the driver's physical test too..... That's one way..... As a new resident of AL, you have the right to apply...it's up to them to tell you that you don't qualify......just don't provide any excuses. or too much information......like on the stand...just answer the QUESTION, don't be HELPFUL....(like telling them where you moved from....no BODY's business...not even theirs !) It IS their business to ascertain if you are a RESIDENT of the State of Alabama, and if you've ever had an AL driver's license........they can't tell if you've had a European driver's license (only Canada I believe) Look, illegals i.e. Mexicans Hondurans, etc get driver's licenses ALL the time ! Perhaps the first step is to see whether YOU can get a State of Alabama official ID (it looks like a DL, but it's NOT ).......then a few weeks later, go back in an apply for an official DL ! I can promise you, you'll get less questions, but you ALREADY have a state issued ID in your pocket....... The assumption is that all Europeans drive cars.........they do not !! You could tell them the last DL you had was in ARKANSAS in 1989....that's too long for most states to go back.......they PURGE their records....... Keep in mind, you can say you didn't drive for a long time because you got in a car wreck, and didn't feel comfortable (don't say ABLE !)...but know you DO ! Lots of ways to skin a cat.. No information does not mean you're LYING to a state offical ! |
