Welcome to Alaska Josh!

This is an outdoors man's paradise; fishing, hunting, hiking, the list goes on and on; winter is skiing, snowmobiling, and more photography.

Now the bad news... January and February are our coldest months in Anchorage, so bundle up Bubba. Temperatures will drop well below zero, and when the wind picks up, it 's gonna feel even colder than you ever thought possible.

Plan on spending some bucks on a good parka, boots and gloves. It is all worth it though. Wait till you see the Northern Lights.

If your the indoors type, there are numerous movies theaters, and lots of great eateries, not to mention the night life. The important thing is to be active; whether it is by skiing, or snowmobiling, be active, that or hit the gym. There are some great gyms in Anchorage.

Lucky you....I love Alaska. If you enjoy outdoors then that's your place. Anchorage has some nice places to eat but remember they are huge on tourism so that's how its priced as well as the crowd you will see. There is fishing, skiing, hiking, bird watching, climbing, wildlife watching, hunting, and so on. Once you settle in you will see what fits you.
Bundle up!

I would suggest getting a pair of cross country skis. They have some great trails in and around Anchorage.
Unfortunately, I live in Ketchikan, Alaska (in the worlds largest temperate rain forest- not a well known fact-), and the snow will be here for a while then melt away as the 40degree weather comes back with rain.

Whenever I'm in Anchorage I eat at Taco King.... great mexican.

Have fun, and welcome.
