Altitude adjustment

Anyone from Flagstaff?

Wondering how difficult it is to adjust to the altitude when you live in high elevations like this? I heard that your car needs to be adjusted for altitude and that you get winded pretty easily when you first get there.

That should only apply to old cars with carburated engines as far as I am aware. Anything newer is most likely fuel injected and the computer automatically adjusts it.

Hey there buddy! I live in Phoenix and whenever I go to Flag which is not often I get a headache it must be the altitude.

I drove a Hyundai Santa fe 6 cyl. to the 4 corners area of new mexico. I read that this car needed to have the computer adjusted by the dealership if you moved to high altitudes.

At one point we were driving up to the mesa where the cliff dwellers lived. I had the engine floored going up a moderate slope and could not get past 30 MPH!

I have not been to flagstaff since I was 16, so I don't recall any health issues, but I was in Aztec NM on july 4th and played volleyball. After one match, I realized that this place had no extra air to breath. either that or I was getting really old.

I live at sea level, so this took some getting used to.

I can comment that my son and his wife just recently moved from New Jersey to the Colorado foothills (yep, just in time to get all that snow! ) and he told us he had to take his 2002 pickup as well as his garden tractor, 4 wheeler, etc. to be adjusted because they would not run properly at the high altitude.

I have heard you need an adjustment as well. I've been to Flag and Payson only about 10 times, each time I drove from PHX and did not feel any change in the way my vehicle handled. I also felt better. Maybe it's because I was surrounded around tree's which in PHX its cactus and sage brush.
