Moving with Siberian Husky to Arizona?

Hi, I am moving to central Arizona in June 2008 from Milwaukee WI. I do however have a 3 year old Siberian Husky. I just want to make sure she'll be okay out there during those "brutal" summers I have been hearing soo much about.. Obviously we'll have air conditioning and she'll be in the house during the work day.... just want to make sure she'll be happy. I'm sure she will love the new area and the fenced in back yard we will now have as shell be able to run around freely when I am home... Any help you could send me or any tips and tricks or anything for that matter I might need to know about brining a dog to AZ would be appreciated.... thanks :)

Re: Moving with Siberian Husky to Arizona?

Please keep in mind you are moving a snow dog to the desert. Your dog can suffer from sunburn and heat stroke just like humans do. The ground gets HOT.. and yes paws do burn! However your dog can be fine if you pay attention. When your dog is out in the yard make sure you cool off an area of dirt with water constantly. Your dog may take to digging even if she never has before. They like to find the cooler dirt to lay in. I would have a designated area for my dogs to do that. I would flood it and they loved it. Misters help as well. When playing with your dog outside in the heat... make sure she has plenty of water to drink ALL THE TIME. And don't play so much that she gets overheated. It will take a couple of summers for her to get used to it. Just be aware and you should all be fine.
