IZZY, that's a pretty large lake east of town there. Hogan Resevoir? Looks like nobody lives near it. Is it a sport-lake, i.e., boating, skiing, fishing? or is it a water-supply lake and protected? I can't recall if you've said before but do you get snow in Valley Springs?

Re: Pictures Valley Springs March 07

Good Morning,

Yes, Hogans is five minutes from our house. We have several lakes within an hour of here. Hogan's is a boating, fishing, swimming, camping lake, and has lots of hiking trails around it. It also has horse trails. Also the highest population of rattle snakes in our area are found around the lake.

I will try and take some pics of it soon...while all the hills are still green:) The shoreline is rocky...not sandy. The oak trees and grassy hills are part of the shoreline.

Not a pretty lake...but great for water sports. We don't get snow here...except those rare times that it drops below 500 ft. That is about where we are. It takes about 30 minutes to get to the 3,000 ft. snow line from here.

Thanks for the information. Is Hogan a place where folks would want to spend a few days once or twice a year? Or, more for a day and maybe a night?
Since there are several lakes within driving distance of Valley Springs, is there one or more that would offer forrested camping & hiking ... and maybe cabins and would be suitable for a week or more as a "get-away"?

Re: Pictures Valley Springs March 07

It is a lake that is mostly used by locals. It is not a vacation spot that you would travel a long ways for. Most the folks that use it...live within an hours drive.

Most of the forested lakes are up Hwy 88. There are small. I can't think of any with cabins. But there are campgrounds. I have one in mind but I need to check the name again...I think it is bear lake...on 88 or is it silver lake...on 88 will check and get back to you. It is about an 1 1/2 from Valley Springs. A popular trail and forest park is Big Trees Park. It is 45 minutes from Valley Springs...lots of trails...it is in a national park and there is camping there. Lots of forest. I posted a picture of it a while back check the valley springs pictures thread with pics. There are two threads with pics. I think I labeled the picture Big Trees Park.
