| Have you ever saw a movie star in Hollywood?
I did! We were driving down a little street behind a place called The Lot. We were going one way and coming from the other direction was a Rolls with Jack Nicholson and John Lithgow in it. I almost died! Jack had on his dark sunglasses and he was in the passenger seat and John was driving. It was a Sunday morning. I would love to go back eventually and hang around for a day or so and star watch! |

Saw Whoppi Goldberg and River Phoenix here in Oregon. I actually stumbled across a shoot in downtown Portland one night and almost tripped over River Phoenix as he was sitting on the sidewalk filming a movie..... oops

The only movie stars I've seen in Hollywood were in a theater. Course, never really got around there much. However, up here in Sheridan Wyoming, we have a Dairy Queen. Out front is a bench. I once sat on that bench eating a cone and also on the bench eating a cone was Chuck Conners. We had a nice chat. Same Dairy Queen I run into Meadowlark Lemmon. Jane Fonda stopped there once, everybody got up and walked away. |

Meadowlark Lemmon was up here because the schools hired him to teach a basket ball camp. Larry Hagman has land here. Tom Cruise has land here. Several celebs have places up here.

I worked at a Wal-Mart (as the eye doc) in Montrose, Colorado in '01. I own my own fabulously successful practice in CT now by the way... ![]() I got fired from there if anyone is interested. I believe I posted that in another thread... ![]() Sometimes people would come down to Montrose from Telluride to get supplies. Particularly the earthy people who don't care for modern conveniences. After all, you aren't going to be seeing Tom Cruise or Oprah walking the streets of Montrose. So in the checkout line one day was Darryl Hannah. I heard this commotion outside my door so I went out to look. My, my people were fawning over her. Frankly, I couldn't even tell who it was--I had to ask. That's Darryl Hannah??? That woman over there???? She looks NOTHING like she does in the movies. I'm telling you, either drugs, hard living, or the best makeup artist in the world has done something to this woman. She is one earthy woman. Wow, she looked like a street person I'm telling you. And the car she was driving around was this old rusty Suburban. I wasn't in Colorado long enough to see many celebs but oh well. They are simply people too, who happen to make a lot of money and are on TV a lot. I bet there's a lot more celebs out there that you walk right past because you just don't recognize them. I was with my family in the Newark Airport in NJ waiting for a plane and I was looking at this family because the father looked really familiar. I said to my wife: "That looks like someone I recognize--I bet that's Ice Cube. Look at their clothes and look at that ring on his wife's hand. It's HUGE. It has to be him." They were getting on a flight to Los Angeles so who else could it be??? Going back to Hollywood apparently. What is odd that is that I haven't even seen a movie with him in it but I recognized him from ads on TV. Weird huh? First thing we did when we landed was to go to a video store to confirm it really was him. I guess what threw me off was that no one else approached him for an autograph. It was a busy airport you know.

Ours is an old town, we still put banners across Main St. When they got in the lemo and headed for the airport there was a banner across main. It said, "Ted, go home and take your bitch with you." We have a Viet Nam vets motor cycle club that is 1500 members. In a town of only 15,000, that's a pretty big club. They bought land up in Montana instead.

I also saw Brad White in Vegas. He use to play for the NY Nicks. He sat right next to me during dinner at a restaurant. I even have pictures with him somewhere saved in my DH's computer.

I had breakfast with Pauly Shore at a sidewalk cafe on the Sunset Strip. It was actually kinda cool. He's a lot more funny in person than he is in movies. The reason I was with him is that I was working with someone he was dating. My nephew lives about 300 yards from Oprah's estate in Montecito. If you do a Google Earth look at Montecito (just east of Santa Barbara) you'll see a giant square-shaped piece of property in the middle of the forested village. Most properties are 5 acres or less, Oprah got the one and only huge property available, it's 50 acres and clearly visible from the air. My nephew is in a tiny rental house on a small lot toward the hills from her. Hanging out in Santa Barbara (where I grew up), I see tons of celebs when I visit. In Austin we had Sandra Bullock, Matthew McConoughey and Lance Armstrong --- and I think they've all moved away! We get LOTS of temporary celebs because there are so many movies filmed here. Vancouver, BC, has sure become a hot spot for film. I swear, the Lifetime Movie Network (LMN) must have several full-time crews living there because half the movies on that channel show Vancouver as the location in the credits. Anyone happen to know why it's such a popular place to film? |

Now she is trying the same thing with Iraq. Guess she's a slow learner.

My mother was raised in santa barbara. This is one of my most favorite places. Been body surfing at Henry's beach. Wonderful place to visit. As for as filming in Vancouver, the reason is: cheap cheap cheap (they offer good deals to the crews from what I understand) They have an aggressive program to attract film crews, and I understand they provide good facilities. also, It's a 3ish hour flight from LA. If you ever see a movie that claims to be in seattle, it's most likely vancouver. They don't film often here because we made it expensive and hard to film in Seattle itself.

| Re: Have you ever saw a movie star in Hollywood? duzzerz: That's pretty much what I expected to be the answer about Vancouver. Cheaper than Seattle, but with the same benefits of having an incredible variety of locations, an educated and diverse population, easy access to and from LA, etc. One of the main reasons why Austin has become the "third coast" of the film industry is simply LOCATIONS. You can drive an hour in any direction from here and find Southern Plantations, deserts, canyons, old towns that look like they haven't changed since 1930 (because they haven't), flatlands, dramatic scenery, greenery and rocks and barren wasteland and suburban sprawl --- we've got incredible variety and it's very easy to take over one of the nearby small towns and turn it into whatever backdrop you need for your movie. I own a property near Lockhart, where 26 major movies have been filmed and countless other made-for-TV movies and shows have used backdrops and locations. That's just one of hundreds of towns that have such a resume of filming due to the ease of obtaining permits, interesting historic architecture, and low cost of doing business in small-town Texas. The local film industry probably grew up AROUND these external factors rather than being the driving force. Now politicians have jumped on the bandwagon and are trying to make it even more appealing to film here, but there are probably 20 states and a few hundred cities all competing for that business so it has diversified a lot. I see lots of movies filmed in the southeast now. Georgia and the Carolinas are hotbeds of film, especially Savannah GA, Wilmington NC, and Charleston SC. The Last of The Mohicans, which was set in upstate NY, was actually filmed in the gorgeous mountains of North Carolina. |
