Disney has gotten expensive

Hi Everybody,

My older kids are in their 30's...when we took them to Disneyland we could fly, rent a car, get a hotel, all our ticktes...for Less than $1000. That is a family of four for 4 days. That was at the last minute with no discounts.

Now it will cost us $1300. and that is with all the discounts. No plane, and no car rental. Just the...room and tickets...for that price. By the time we drive there, meals, and gas the trip will run $1700. for 4 days. We live in central California. I can't imagine what it cost for folks outside of the state.

Re: Disney has gotten expensive

I hear you... When I was a kid we used to drive out every weekend to go dancing and we had those yearly passes that cost around $100. Anytime, any ride as many times as you wanted. This last time I can't believe how expensive it was and Thank Goodness for that fast pass thing or we would have gone only on a ride or two! The lines were terrible.

Sure is a long way from those A B C D E Tickets... we would run around and look for old people to trade them our A & B's for the E's!!! Who else remembers that? Or am I now one of those OLD people!!!!

Last time I went to Disney World in Florida a 1 day ticket was $49 if I remember correctly. Now I just checked and a 1 day ticket is $67.

Right now the tickets for Disneyland in LA are on sale $129. per person for three day pass. Let's see for 5 people that is $645. just for the tickets...nothing else.

Re: Disney has gotten expensive

I've never been to Knots Berry...just never sounded that exciting. As far as Disneyland goes...with the addition of California Land...it takes us three days. I like all the shows and we go on our favorite rides several times. We take our time and the little one needs a nap in the afternoon. We tried once doing it in my day. Felt rushed and not a relaxing time.

The Bugs Life show in California Land is great. Also the Bear in the Big Blue House show was a hit with the kids. In Disneyland our favorites are The Tiki Room (with the birds), the tea cups, The Priates ride, and The haunted house.

What was your favorites in Disney/California land?

Personally I would rather spend the day at Knotts Berry Farm than at Disneyland. But that is me and I still like Disneyland better than California Adventure. And Yes to do both you will need at least 3 days!!!

Izzy,

Knotts is nothing compared to Disneyland. The motif is so different, and the atmosphere is very different. They have added a lot of fast rides over there but still maintain many of the older rides. The log ride is my favorite, Montazuma's revenge was the first loop ride I went on. With it's old west flavor, this is a great place to go for a change of pace.

Re: Disney has gotten expensive

With our young kids...I don't want to put them on fast rides...so Disneyland will do for a few more years. Actually, I'm enjoying them being little. After all it doesn't last long. Seeing Disneyland through their eyes is so exciting.:) Grandma has decided to go with us and we will rent her a lark. She hasn't been to disneyland in 30 years. A lot has changed:)

Re: Disney has gotten expensive

IMO Knott's is slowly but surely being ruined. They are adding more and more coasters and putting less attention towards atmosphere. Big silver support poles for Silver Bullet in the Indian Village aren't really classy to me.

In Florida WDW's price increases are TERRIBLE. In 2003 a one day one park ticket was $48. Now it's $67. 4 years should not equal $19 increase...if that continues, it'll be $200 before we know it.

Re: Disney has gotten expensive

I doubt I will ever see Disney World. The cost of going to that coast and seeing it for our whole family is just beyond what I want to spend on a vacation.

I'm glad we have the orginal Disneyland. The kids are getting so excited about going. I also plan to see the Horse Shoe Review again. It is a great western music show in Disneyland.

We haven't been to Toon Town yet. Will make it this trip. I hoping we get to do dinner in the Pirates ride. But meals in Disneyland are so expensive.

Last trip we ate lunch there and we had 3 kids lunches, Peanut Butter and Jelly with fruit and drinks. Two sandwiches and drinks for my husband and I, it came to $50. I mentioned this to the cashier...she said we were making memories, Hah! Funny lady. :)

Re: Disney has gotten expensive

Been far too long since I even thought of going to a theme park. Those prices totally floored me! I think the last time I went to Disneyland I was in Junior High (there's a clue ;) ), the last theme park I went to was Great America in Santa Clara and the was in 1984.

Re: Disney has gotten expensive

Okay, it is that time a year again. Disneyland here we come. This time we are packing a lot of our food to take. The most expensive thing about the trip is food. It cost a family of five about $100. a day for food. That is one meal and a couple of snacks.

We pack the rest in with us. You can take food into disneyland as long as it is prepacked food. Rent a stroller and get some small softsided ice chest. A bottle of water is $3. a soda is $3. a sandwich and soda for five is $50.

Re: Disney has gotten expensive

Well I'll be darn. Someone asked me if I was sure I could take food into disneyland. I have for the last three years straight. Went and looked on the disney site and it said only "special restricted diets". Well I guess not knowing has been benefical to us. They have check all our bags every year and said okay.

Well I'll let you know how it goes this year.

Re: Disney has gotten expensive

Walt Disney World was now $71 for a 1 day 1 park pass when I went a couple months ago.

"Park Hopper", the ability go change parks through the day used to be included on every ticket over a 1 day, but is now an extra charge.

"No Expiration" used to be included on every single ticket, but is now an extra charge.

It was so crowded that it was not even fun. I was annoyed just trying to walk. I have never seen it so busy in my life. I think many more foreigners are taking advantage of the low dollar and taking vacations there. I heard many more foreign languages being spoken than on any of my previous visits.

It will probably be a long time before I ever return.

Re: Disney has gotten expensive

In Disneyland you can change parks through the day if you have a Park Hopper for more than one day.

We always go off season and during the week. We actually asked a disney worker what days of the week were less crowded. In Disneyland the best days to go, less crowds, are Tues., Wed., and Thurs. We always go in March. We take the risk of rain some years, but this year the weather looks great. I actually get on line...find out when the Anaheim schools go on Easter/Spring break and don't go during that time. I also ask the hotel if any conventions will be in town during our visit. One year there was a teacher's convention, very crowded.

We hate crowds. So if you're going take our tips:) Also, there are a few cheaper but close hotels. We stay at a two star hotel. It is pretty good. Frig, Microwave, Swimming Pool, half block from Disneyland.
