I live in Western Colorado in the Grand Junction area. I've lived in Colorado for 10 years now, with one year back East as my husband was in a doctoral program in PA. I've lived in the Front Range, Elbert County and worked for Douglas County Elections. We then moved to the San Luis Valley where my husband was a teacher at Alamosa High School, after 3 years we moved to PA and then back to the valley within a year. I have a special affinity for the South San Juan mountains. It's a beautiful area and not highly populated. We moved from the San Luis Valley last a year and a half ago to the Grand Junction area. It's beautiful here and the drive to Telluride and Aspen isn't too far either. There is a ski area within an hours drive called Powderhorn. I have a special love of Eastern Utah and Arches National Park which is another frequent day trip of ours. In the next couple of years we hope to be moving to a resort town. We are looking at Steamboat, Estes, Aspen, Ouray... I love Colorado and the West in general. I cannot ever imagine living back in the D.C. area where I grew up. |

![]() Aren't the property values in Telluride just obscene??? Personally, I just don't get it because that means there is demand. I know I don't want to live there. I think it would be crazy. There's nothing to do there other than ski. Where's the nearest decent-sized city? It's quite a drive to anywhere considering where the town is. Why not buy property in Vail or somewhere closer to civilization? I guess maybe that's the idea I suppose. Anyway, if I was a billionaire, I wouldn't buy there. Been to the hot springs in Ouray? Pretty cool huh? Or maybe HOT is the word. I'm sure you've been to Glenwood Springs. I think Ouray is pretty unique.

I would call it quality of life. In Ouray, Aspen and Telluride you have year round activities. Hiking, mountain biking, unsurpassed beauty sprinkled with "God" moments. I wouldn't like in Vail, it lacks charm and is too damn close to Denver. Steamboat, Aspen and Telluride all offer a more international crowd. Access to people that you normally wouldn't have access to. A fabulous situation for kids. Aspen and Steamboat are both family friendly towns, with something always going on, summer or winter. Ouray is beautiful and we go to the Hot Springs a couple of times a month on average. Another place with year round activities and not too far from Telluride. Who has the Telluride BlueGrass Festival in the summer and stunning views. I guess your values and social needs come into play when you choose where you live. I like small, resort towns and a transient population for at least part of the year. If you are looking for suburbia and a Starbucks on every corner and constant contact with the neighbors, you'd probably not choose the lifestyle my family has. We all have different needs, I guess

Here's what I would like: A property with no neighbors, easy access to wild areas that have no people, but close access to people and shopping if I want it. Doesn't seem possible does it! ![]() Guess I need to be a billionaire for this to happen. Something like 3,000 acres ought to do it with my house somewhere in the middle.

I lived in W. Colorado and I thought it was too much traveling to Denver and Colorado Springs. Look, it's not possible to have a 3,000 acre ranch right on the Denver city limits.
