Colorado Springs

Is it practical to live in Colorado Springs and commute to Denver for work? Looks to be about 60 miles? How are the roads in the winter time?

Also, is it cheaper to live the Colorado Springs than in Denver?

Be careful trusting your map. I was just up I-25 last year and it's pretty hard to tell where the springs stop and Denver starts. haha It's all full of houses now. Plus, it's 60 miles to Denver and then almost 60 miles through Denver. So a lot would depend on where you worked and where you lived.

Roads are pretty good. I-25 is taken care of pretty well and bladed/sanded pretty regularly when it's snowing. There are a couple of spots where you go over an area but it's short lived. Shen I come through, I hit snow and then sticking snow to snow and back on dry pavement in about 5 miles. The rest was all dry.

As to price of living, sorry, can't help you. Been through, but never stopped.

Oh, and the other drawback would be the fact that 20,000 other people make that commute and traffic is a real bear.

Re: Colorado Springs

There is a place called Monument Hill that is a nightmare in a snowstorm, I know, I've driven it and up through Denver in a blizzard. It's quite scary.

The Front Range in general, is a very expensive place to live

Isn't the traffic awful? I wouldn't do it. You might spend an hour getting to Denver and an hour sitting in traffic.

Steamboat is designed for one thing - i.e, people coming to ski, renting the exclusive condo's and spending money in some pricey shops.
I worked out of there for a short time. Was put up for free in a great condo - covered all the hills and mountains south of town. Not much else to do there.

Nut, why don't you post some of what you found, if you remember it. Of course, I was working the mountains and hills all around it - hiking and climbing was my profession for many years. All they had at the time (about 15yrs ago) was a fairly unique Pizza joint - and I can't recall which time of year it was ... except it definitely wasn't winter - no snow.
Oh, and I was thru there about six years ago and didn't notice any changes (didn't stop, though).

Re: Colorado Springs

I was just wondering through but 1 of the locals talked me into a small hike. Turned into a rock climb, with 12 others. Don't befriend the locals at the bar it has bad effects. She was nice though. lol Anyway Aside from the "Small Hike" I remember a descent size lake just north of town maybe 15 miles GREAT trout fishing. It is in a state park. I think the Park is Steamboat Springs state park as well. Don't Quote that, as I am not sure of the name of it. Anyway Everywhere there seemed to be things to do. It was about May or June when I was there. The Big Ski lifts with the house on a wire thing, where up and running even though there was no Snow. Tourist paid big bucks to see the View I guess. Rode alot of horses too. But the local had 15 of them. She rented them out for trail rides. They Had A mineral spring there too. Maybe more but I know they had 1 for sure. Mainly I Hiked/Rock climbed, Fished, And Rode the trails with My short time friend. But there was alot to do. She kind of steered me away from "tourist traps". Think She just wanted me longer. LOL Anyway I am sure if you hit Steamboat Springs in a search engine it would have a more recent list of things to do in summer. My time there was 11 years ago. And I am sure it has changed. But hey if you go there and end up on Elk River Rd, and you should. But if while there you see a red head in her early 30's On A horse ,tell her Grinner says HI.

Re: Colorado Springs

Grinner, eh? This is starting to turn into material for my next series of unrelated dreams! Oh, speaking of dreams - almost PM'd you on that but let it slip away - maybe next time I'm in a mood of hilarity.
The biggest thing I think of when I think of Steamboat is; my boss at the time making out with his wife in the barrel-booths of the pizza joint.
Yuck! They were like, then, my age - now! Yuck!
