Life as a cop

I want to take this time to give a hand to my fellow brothers and sisters in Law Enforcement.

Each day we strap on that vest and gun, pin that badge or tuck it in our pocket.. we are faced with the unknown. We have training, but still each day is a bunch of unknowns. I have been shot twice, both hit my vest, but the brusing was very painful, but I am alive. I have been slashed or cut with knifes, beer bottles, and car keys.. I have witnessed death from drunk driving, and suicide. I have been on more spouse abuse runs than I care to admit too. Everyday we seem to see the worst in people.. hardly do we get to see the good. So I want to salute the men and women that still put up with it everyday, and still have hope in us all.

::salute::

Saluting here too!!!

Nobody likes a cop until you need one. I have seen so much disrespect to men and women who each day put their lives on the line to protect us. There are always those excpetions to the rule and abuse the power they have and unfortunatly make it difficult for those that do an honorable job. To those who do....Thank You.

A police officer or deputy reminds me a lot of my father. My daughter once asked me, "Did Grandpa ever give you a spanking?" I thought about it a bit and said, "No, your grandfather never GAVE me a spanking, I earned every one of them." It's like a ticket, all I can do is smile and say, "You got me." I've never been pulled over that I wasn't doing something wrong. haha

Thats the other hard part of the job as well.. no one trust you, heck most hate you, until your needed and then your thier hero. Thanks for understanding that. Oh yeah we have our super hero wannabe's and our shady cops as well..

Also try being a cop with kids.. you worry daily that someone you have arrested, or someone will attack them just based off of your choosen profession.

One of the many reasons I have to step away and try something new. Its very hard to do, and I dont know how I will take to being a chef.. but the stress of each day has prepaired me for the stress of a kictchen. =) I sure hope so.. lol

Re: Life as a cop

I have mixed feelings about cops and shouldn't because they're all out there risking their lives daily. So yes, I salute you, Panterro, and all of your colleagues.

Thanks, but there is no need really. Just remember we are humen too, and have bad days and good. I have to remind myself that fact all the time. Give them the respect, they are sticking with it, I am just about done and hanging up my vest and gun for good.. Cooking is my new passion... well an old passion being realized I should say.

Maybe this is where my anger issues come from.. humm all the crap we deal with on a daily bases.. naw maybe im just an asshole. lol. =)

Re: Life as a cop

I've never had any trouble thanking the officers that I know when I see them face to face and I do know that they have infinite on a daily basis. I'd once contemplated going for CHP when I was growing up in CA, however I knew that I could not handle when I asked myself what I'd do when I ran across a drunk driver that took another's life, especially a child's as I'd want to knock the snot out of him/her my own self.

So yes, I salute you and your fellow officers.
