Spring Fever....

It was 73 on Sunday, rained yesterday and was a high in the 50's, 45 right now and cloudy, and it is supposed to be sunny and 70 later this week. The trees are budding leaves, the flowers are blooming. I love Spring!!!!

How is the weather where you are all at?

Re: Spring Fever....

Actually pulled the big John Deere out and mowed most of my 3 1/2 acres yesterday. 'Twas a tad too wet - but was starting to look all "lumpy". Still have some cold winds keeping us off the beach - but looking forward to a mostly dry week.
Funny - first time out with the Deere - and I saw lawn-trolls at every turn!

Trolls or gnomes? we have gnomes. If the wife had her way, our yard would be a sea of pink flamingos and lawn gnomes.

Mowed the lawn on saturday. Really wet, but it was way to long.

Re: Spring Fever....

been surprisingly dry here in the Seattle area. Sunny but still a bit chilly in the 40's and 50's.

But last week for one day it got into the mid 70's and trees started to bud! Spring is coming!!!

We are getting a John Deer snowblower. It's used but works great. We will be prepared for next season's snows.

I'm thinking 2 3/4 RH brakes on the rear for dirt. 2 1/2 on the left. Sound right? I've already got that motor balanced in the middle like a mod but I'm open-wheeled like a sprint - wonder if there's a class for me at the track?

Actually, that's not one of the things I had room to retain - but feel lucky since I was talking rear brakes. I do like them - 'specially the outlaws. Like the mods tho.

And then?

I grew up 100 miles from Indy and listening to the 500 on the radio then watched it in the TV later on.
Dad owned a piece of a track when I was wee. I had pics of me in a racecar before I could talk.
We're talking Jalopy days! Life before Crash Dummies!

So CG, were you in Minnersoda then? Up high or down low? What happened next?

Born an raised on the east side of st paul had my first go-kart in 5 grade started racing them at 12 had built or helped build 3 race cars by the time I was 15 in our neighborhood when I had my first hot at 15, there wear 7 race cars with in 4 blocks an 11 with in a mile .We wear a racing neighborhood . was going to go sprint car racing an all set to go get a car , then started figuring out the money side of it an who I had or could get for sponsors an things kinda fell apart from there , a couple years later I quit until 1999 hadn’t been to a race in 15 years I go to one an the next day I’m buying a car
Full blown dirt late model . Every time I think of it I would wonder if I still had a brain or what . well I retired again in 02 had a ton of fun , but I guess the good lord has other plains.

Curious, Curious, where's the car?

Well, Pop had him a Nascar pin but he somehow lost his piece of the track. Soured him - and he was one of the original Daytona fans - from the old beach/motorcycle racing crowd. I spent the next many years watching it on TV. My son almost went nuts for a car - never got one ... that ran, anyway and me? I just keep racing in my mind. "Da Winnah". Given that particular dream to live, I think I would've raced the LeMans type of thing - liked the idea of being able to get out of the car in the middle of the race and go have a couple of shots while your co-pilot's got the wheel. (Or, that's how they did it in a movie I saw one time).

Re: Spring Fever....

Hey guys...sorry to butt into this conversation...I just have a quick question. My Dad (passed away in '96) was into the Mickey Thompson Off-Road Racing out in California. I was trying to get some info on this specific type and didn't realize there were so many styles of racing. The type of car that he had looked really aerodynamic...I know I'm not much help, but do either one of you know specifically which type of off-road racing this would be called?

Still have the car 2 ½ of them ,one is up for sail the other ½ of a car is the kids he kinda lost interest been selling the rest of the parts sold a dozen wheels last week have a car an a motor to go yet . I always thought I would have been good at road racing . thought about that to ,but in order to get experience I would have had to race scca for a bit an they pay no money to help offset the cost of racing .

Betcha CG will nail this one - but Mickey Thompson raced different styles - and sponsored two more. One is moto-cross racing ... predecessor of monster-trucks. Indoors. Like the dirt-bikes do now.
The other is off-road racing and is called Off Road Racing. The Baja races in Mexico draw a lot of regular folks with tricked-out jeeps, trucks, you name it.

I don't have it available to show you...it's in a frame in Minnesota. Not much help, I know. The actual car was worth about $50,000. It had a fin on the back of it. Kind of a looked like those cars with the parachutes that fly out the back. My brother has it in Yuma, AZ right now. I know I sound like such a ditz!
