Anyone into the High Antioxidant Juice? I just started MonaVie... I have also seen a lot of new juices in the grocery stores... Just wondering if any one has any thoughts on this.... I for one do not eat enough servings of fruit throughout the day. I took one of those skin tests at the doctor's office that somehow scans your hand and gives a report on your antioxidant level at that specific moment... has anyone else seen this or had it done as well? How about DanActive or PromiseActiv yogurt drinks? I know they all seem a little on the expensive side, but I am thinking that it should probably be worth it in the long run by staying healthy. I guess it's the convenience is what you're mostly paying for. Any thoughts?

So what makes you only part time instead of full time... is it just holidays or certain kinds of foods?? My biggest weakness is chocolate... but I am trying to make healthier chocolate choices.... like adding Chocolate Instant Breakfast drink into my big coffee mug in the morning.. and having a "healthier" kind of mocha drink with some nutrition on the run.... vs. do I dare say ... candy... YIKES

| Re: Anyone into the High Antioxidant Juice or yogurt drinks? Howdy. Scuse me - just gotta mention a couple of things here: First, if you've eaten your yogurt out of any store - or even if you've used a "Salton" yogurt-maker or some such then, ... you've never eaten yogurt! Two reasons - first, the pasturization process kills the bacteria required to get the actual "Yogurt" germ. Second, fructose kills the yogurt culture - meaning the fruit in the bottom or the fruit mixed in or the fruit packages in the same container. I used to make my own using mixes and thermos' (thermii?) and it was quite tasty - had to make it every 4 days though. So, when you're grabbing or adding anything that says it's a culture from the store ... except for cheese and cottage-cheese ... you are not getting true yogurt (or kefir) - you're getting an imitation yogurt/cultured milk dairy dessert ... which is still better for you than most other snacks - but you're still not getting "the stuff" Can't get it in American - regulations. No, not in the health-food store either - same regulations - must use pasteurized milk. A reminder - any temp over 111 kills the culture - home yogurt makers usually hit 114 (regulations ya know). Peace

Hi Cheryl! I have one ultra-favorite juice that I am only able to find at Publix. It's called Simply Nutritious Mega Antioxidant manufactured by R.W. Knudsen. It's about $4.00 for a quart, but I've honestly noticed a difference in my skin and also seem to have a bit more energy, which is a bonus. The best part is that it tastes REALLY good. As for nutrients, here are the nutrition facts: 8 oz. = one serving calories 120 cholesterol 0 fat of any kind 0 sodium 20 mg potassium 290 mg total carbohydrate 29 g sugars 29 g protein 0 g vitamin A 100% vitamin c 100% vitamin e 100% calcium 2% selenium 100% I used to go to a place called Inta Juice in Baton Rouge (I believe Randy Moss owns it) and bought a double shot of wheat grass about twice a week. I love that stuff. Very nutritional, also.

Another thing I do is get some fresh pineapple, (the dark yellow that's already cored) cantaloupe and watermelon, cut them into bite-size pieces and have a bowl of fruit once a day. I'm not much on fruit, normally, but it's quite tasty.

I have been putting pineapple on top of my pizza as well... I wonder if there are any nutrients left in it after it is cooked??? hmm.. (What Wisconsin-born person could live without splurging on something with a little cheese once in a while!!??!!)

When I first started this "Vegan-oriented" diet, I picked up a few of the "Superfood" drinks for snacks. Mostly, the Greenfood with the high doses of protein. I'd only picked up a few when I started reading the lables. Lots of sugars. Wrong approach. I have a juicer - I figured I'd be juicing full-time to keep my nutritional needs met. Juicer still sits unused on the counter. Nothing. Zip. Nada. Oh, I've had my share of juice - just not much different. Some cider. Some pulpy OJ. So, I just posted to update with my own experience and mention the sugars in the anti-oxidants.

I don't see how the yogurt bacteria is dead since my grandma and I have used store bought yogurt to make our own. You boil the milk, cool it to the appropriate temperature, pour it in glass jars, then put a spoonful of plain ol', well... plain, store bought yogurt in each one. Put it in the yogurt maker or your own contraption and eight hours later (I think eight... might've been less) you have yogurt. You can even use a few spoonfuls from that batch to make the next one. Yogurt made with cow milk comes out a little thicker than if you use goat milk. I could never figure out why. If the culture was dead we'd have ended up with sour milk.

No Candy, you don't end up with sour-milk ... but let me say this first then I'll address your post ... You will end up with a cultured-milk product - this is what we buy in the store that is called "yogurt" but isn't. There are many cultured-milk products, i.e., cottage-cheese, cheese, kefir, buttermilk, etc. There are many bacteria and when the milk is overheated (which it is in manufacturer-methods), the bacteria is converted to another bacteria. For more info - go find one of the old "Adele Davis" books with a yogurt recipe in it ... and read her diatribes on the subject. But now - to your post. Dig it! When I made yogurt, I started with a batch of "Store-bought, unflavored" yogurt! That's right - the stuff that ain't yogurt ... because when cultured right, it turns back into yogurt! Then, it's just like other "starters" and you can use a spoonful or so of the old to build the new for 3 batches or so - you can tell the difference by taste of when it has gotten to old to use anymore. You can also use the right culturing-agent if you can find a supplier - it's just, in the 70's and 80's, I could never find it. Not being from an agricultural family, maybe I just didn't know where to look. I also used Non-Instant, Non-pasturized milk and SEGO (a brand of canned milk) - and never milk from a store. Using milk from your own cow might be best. I tried many times to use goat's milk (we had a goat for about six years) but never succeeded. I see it in the stores these days and wonder what that's about. But Candy, as I said - those old Adele Davis books will tell you more than I know. I don't have any anymore. I think the whole-foods movement finally moved beyond her. I also have people here (locally) telling me they believe in "Nancy's" - I'm not sure what to tell them 'cause I think they're wrong ... but don't know for sure. I've made a couple of slight "mistakes" over the years with my yogurt - could usually tell right off the bat 'cause it just didn't set-up quite right - but Whoooeee!! Talk about purging your system! Thanks for your info. I don't know what you folks had - don't know everything about how you did it - I'm just referring you to the only good source of info we had at the start of the movement.
