MULTAN, Pakistan (AFP) - A young boy who tried to copy hanging scenes from the execution video of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein died in central Pakistan, police said.

Mubashar Ali, 9, hanged himself, while re-enacting Hussein's hanging with the help of elder sister, 10, after tying a rope to a ceiling fan and his neck in his home in Rahim Yar Khan district Sunday, a local police official said.

The father of the deceased boy said that his children had been watching the video of Saddam Hussein's execution on television and attempted to imitate the hanging as other family members thought they were playing in another room.

"My wife and sister rushed to rescue Mubashar when children cried for help from the adjoining room, but he died due to hanging," Alamgir Paracha, father of Mubashar, told AFP.

Police said that the death was accidental and a case of parental negligence.

"It was an accident which happened due to carelessness of parents," district police chief Sultan Ahmad told AFP.

Images of the fallen Iraqi dictator with a noose around his neck, surrounded by executioners in balaclavas, were repeatedly telecast by Pakistani television channels at the weekend.

Commentators and the media across Europe had expressed shock and unease Sunday at graphic television pictures showing the last moments of Hussein just before his execution.

Well this happens with anything violent. Kids imitate it. Not shocked. Now the outcry will start, and once again, I will say: "this always happens". If they want it to stop I guess they have to stop showing any form of violence; and that won't happen.

Sad. It's hard to raise kids these days. They are exposed to so much whether they see it on TV or hear it on the radio. You must talk to them continuously about everything. Bring them up in a Godly way. Even then you never know.

I'd say for the most part kids are pretty smart, but that there are certain things they don't quite "get" that will get them into trouble. With me, when I was a kid, I knew you weren't supposed to eat the poison in the bathroom, but I didn't realize you shouldn't put it in the cup that was there. I had no idea why that cup was in the bathroom, didn't think anything of it, but years later I realized that my parents probably used it to brush their teeth, or maybe even drink from! Well, they're still alive, so I guess it didn't kill them, but... oops! I did that pretty often, too. Thinking about it , I'm surprised no one noticed!

It makes me scared to think of what ONE THING my daughter will come up with...

Raise your children up in a Godly way...absolutely, Cuban...I wish there were more people who believed in that. Morals, values and respect for every human being and form of life...what happened?

HOUSTON - A 10-year-old boy was apparently mimicking Saddam Hussein's execution when he hanged himself from a bunk bed, police and family members said.

Sergio Pelico was found dead Sunday in his apartment bedroom after watching a news report on the execution of the former Iraqi leader, said Webster Police Lt. Tom Claunch.

"Our gut reaction is that he was experimenting," Claunch said after officials spoke with family members. An autopsy of the fifth-grader's body was pending.

Julio Gustavo, Sergio's uncle, described the boy as happy and curious. He said Sergio had watched TV news with another uncle on Saturday and asked the uncle about Saddam's death.

"His uncle told him it was because Saddam was real bad," Gustavo said. "He (Sergio) said, 'OK.' And that was it."

"I don't think he thought it was real," Gustavo said. "They showed them putting the noose around his neck and everything. Why show that on TV?"

Sergio's mother, Sara Pelico DeLeon, was at work Sunday and her children were being watched by a relative when one of them found Sergio's body, Gustavo said.

Police said the boy had tied a slipknot around his neck while on a bunk bed. Sergio had been upset about not getting a Christmas gift from his father, police said, but they don't believe he intentionally killed himself. Gustavo said the boy's father lives in New Jersey.

Family members held a memorial for the boy Wednesday in the apartment complex activity center. Gustavo said the family is trying to put together enough money to send Sergio's body to Guatemala for burial.

Why keep watching it? Why leave the TV on the same channel? Why leave the TV on at all? Nobody is forced to watch anything on TV. Life is full of choices.

That would be too easy for the parents and children of today's world! It makes more sense to people to blame anyone else for everything that isn't perfect in today's society. What happened to accountability? No longer needed, evidently!

In my opinion, so many of today's issues would be solved if there were more family interaction (more traditional families to begin with!) and less television and technology, not to mention discipline and respect. No wonder we have more obese children now than we did even 20 years ago! Many of these children don't even have a chance to know what a real family is like...so sad...
