Miracle Whip vs Mayonnaise

Which do you prefer?

We always had Miracle Whip while I was growing up and I continue to use it instead of Mayonnaise to this day.

Re: Miracle Whip vs Mayonnaise

Okay, it has to be Mayo. Miracle Whip is just too sweet. When I make a potato or Macaroni Salad for a party I make two bowls...one with Mayo...one with Mir...Folks like one or the other...there is no middle ground.

Re: Miracle Whip vs Mayonnaise

I prefer Mayo - for taste.
However, I currently eat and enjoy "Veganaise" - with a grapeseed oil base (there are different kinds), fairly low cal. Takes just a little getting used to and is really good for you ... I mean, really-really.

Wyody, you are only voting for it because you have to. Don't lie to us, two slices of potato bread, a slab of ham, some cheese, some lettuce, slice of tomato, and a big dollup of miracle whip is what you really want. Damnit, now I'm hungry. hahaha

Re: Miracle Whip vs Mayonnaise

You're right. I spent years telling myself the fat free mayo is wonderful. The fat free cheese is sooooo tasty....the fat free dressing...just the right touch.

Who are we fooling....the other day I saw a news report about what is causing cancer.
Number one is the way we eat. According to the speaker...we need to be a little under our target weight. Eat little meat. Mostly things that grow. No sodas. No drinking.

In other words...no mom's apple pie...no roast beef...no anything that taste good. I mean really taste good.
Example: I made a chicken soup with boneless, skinless, chicken breast and low fat chicken broth.
Next week....I made a chicken soup with skinless chicken thighs on the bone...and butter added to the same broth.
All other ingredients were the same. The first one nobody ate or liked. The second one they all had seconds...raved about it.

What is the point in fixing food no one wants to eat. We have to fool ourselves into eating the fake...stuff.
Okay...how many of you buy the good low fat products, put them in your frige, and then, Go eat pizza:) ?? But when folks come to visit...they see how healthy we eat.:)

I'm also picky about mustard. I like the fancy ones. Jack Daniels brand, spicy mustard, honey mustard.

Is anyone else picky about mustard?

I've never cared for miracle whip. Too tart without enough body. Did like Mayo - especially my home-made. I was raised on that horrible, purplish, sandwich-spread - prefer horseradish.
Don't like tater-bread ... at least not the kind in the grocery store - it's too much like white-bread ... and white-bread, to me, is like a magic trick gone woefully bad ... "Poof" It's what my wife eats though - and she also likes Miracle Whip over mayo. Like potato-pancakes though. Like sourdough as well - which isn't really far removed at all - I mean, it's taters ... just cultured. Also don't eat lettuce - waste of time. Will eat spinach, chard, cabbage, etc ... but rarely lettuce - no real nutritional value ... mostly water.
Oh man, I took my vegan-azz to the Casino buffet last night - Salmon, Ahi tuna, vegetarian-lasagne, shrimp alfredo ... all cheating but oh so good ... I haven't eaten more than 600 calories a day in over three months - think I scored an ace last night.

I like a good German mustard for my fries and such.
Wanted to mention something related to chicken - fake chicken.
There's a product called "Quorn". My wife likes it as well as chicken - and so do I. Patties, Filets and nuggets.
Primary stuff in it is myco-protein ... comes from fungus - think I've mentioned it before ... fungus amongus. It's good and cholesterol free. Give it a shot sometime.

Re: Miracle Whip vs Mayonnaise

I've seen the French served with Pizza - thought it was only for the bread sticks. Think they serve it at this place in town that PDX and his family like.
I've been eating these no-cheese pizzas with artichokes and ... and ... something I don't understand - they're actually good - but I think I don't carry out the concept very well - I eat them as part of my weirdo diet ... but I eat a whole pizza at a time! At least they're small.

Re: Miracle Whip vs Mayonnaise

Most folks around here eat Pizza with Ranch Dressing. I think Pizza is all about the crust. Something I haven't hand in a while is Yam Fries. Hey, have you ever seen that sauce in Stores that are just for Fries. I will have to look for the name of it next time. Looks like it is loaded with calories but has that look of mayo mixed with spices.

Burgerville restaurants (fast food chain in the area) carries Sweet Potato fries this time of year. I tried them once, and they taste just like sweet potatos. Problem is, I hate sweet potatos and yams!!! Yuck!!!! But, during the summer they carry Walla Walla Onion Rings. They are the BIGGEST chunks of onion you have ever seen. They are hand dipped and deep fried and come with a dipping sauce. They are sooooo goood!!!

What does a horseradish look like? Do you like wasabi?

Re: Miracle Whip vs Mayonnaise

We hate yams - love sweet-potatoes.
I really dislike yam-fries. Can't recall if I've had sweet-potatoe fries.
A horseradish is similar to a parsnip in appearance.

53, you have to cut that puppy with something. I normally will use turnip - but not to the extent that they do in stores.
Dunno why, I grew up eating turnips but I can't imagine liking them now ... especially when they are cut-in too strong.
What do you use? Same?

Who said Wasabi? I just had my first taste of that last week.
Remember that I like to blow things up? Horseradish and Wasabi are the same way to me - it they don't blow a passage straight out the top, they're no fun!

A Japanese friend I once had...always mixed the Wasabi with soy sauce. Just kept mixing the two till it tasted right. I really like California rolls (sushi)...dipped in the mix.

Re: Miracle Whip vs Mayonnaise

I had Sushi for the first time a couple of weeks ago - well, the first time with raw Fish in it, anyway. Think I'd had sushi-roll before but just veggie.
That was the worst thing I've put in my mouth since Scarey Ol' Suzy! Ain' never doing that again unless I end up stranded on an island somewhere.
Sad part is, went back to that same restaurant today - Chinese place at the outlet mall. Had horrible food again today - spoon welded itself to the plate of teriyaki - end of that restaurant. That leaves just three bad chinese places in town - two serve japanese as well. There was a third that changed hands down in "Taft" at the south end of town - but think he closed down ... and that one wasn't too bad.

Try the tuna and the octopus. You will LOVE it!!! A lot of the other stuff can be a bit fishy.

Had the Tuna. Rowlff! Octopus I've had cooked and merely "preserved" as they do by smoking and oiling - used to eat tentacles for lunch in the mountains - great picker-upper.

It also helps to get sushi at a really good sushi place, and not some supermarket or chinese restaurant. Would you go to a chinese restaurant for pizza?

Perhaps, PD. I conjecture that, if this potential move actually takes place, I might let you ... help me explore the world of raw-freaking-fish one day ... but please understand; while age is both fun and scarey, it is also a stabilizing factor in one's willingness to gag ... After about 45, even a gag can mean the end!
This place,, "Momiji's", was recommended by a "friend" who is also Vegan but cheats there with the Tuna & Veggie.
To quote that famous philosopher,
"Homina ... Homina ... Homina ..." (Jackie Gleason).

Sushi has got to have wasabi on it.

Horseradish? I don't cut it with anything until I eat it. Mix with a little catsup or mayo. Wasabi, straight up.

Re: Miracle Whip vs Mayonnaise

HeeHee - the wasabi was what kept me from throwing up the sushi! I was too busy holding the back of my head on!
Now, Fi'ty, I've known of other people who don't cut their horseradish down ... and I've heard bad things.
I know whut you mean - I hate getting the turnip taste in it - that's why I often use parsnip instead (not that I've done either in a really long time).
I tell you whut, a great steak, a double-dollop of horseradish, a double-shot of Drambuie - and it's off to the races for me! How's that for a good Vegan attitude?

Not all sushi is raw...I like the California Rolls. Cooked crab. Spicy tuna is okay. I buy mine at costco. They have a mixed package of it. You do have to go to a GOOD japanese place. We have one in stockton that doesn't have to advertise, there is always a line out front when they open...and they take cash only. They serve the best sushi in town.

Thanks Izzy. I didn't know that all Sushi wasn't raw. Maybe closed my mind a bit too soon - had to though, was getting drafty.

Even raw sushi isn't very raw. Take a thin slice of fish and wrap it in a blanket of hot, steamed rice, and the put a blanket of seaweed over it. You don't think that fish doesn't steam a bit inside that roll? haha
