Delaware Home Prices

CNN/Money reports that Delaware home prices rose only modestly in 2006.

Dover prices were up 10.6%, while Wilmington/Philadelphia prices rose only 2.4%. Downstate markets remain strong, as Delaware has become a popular retirement destination, both for it's beaches and relatively low taxes.

Re: Delaware Home Prices

Delaware's home prices are pretty steep. Here in Wilmington the median is almost $400k. I think it's a little high. However the state has a nice 4 season climate, nice beaches, low taxes. It's just that the initial purchase price of a non-ghetto home is pretty high.

Plus Wilmington is NOT a good city anyway. It may look pretty but it's a ghetto, with lots of crime. Almost every single day there's some sort of murder on the news in Philly or Wilmington. I know they're big cities but it could definetly be nicer.

The best parts of Delaware are southern, near the beaches. It's a little less ghetto down there, anything past Dover is better than Northern DE. Just IMO.

How does it work that the house prices are so high, and the crime is so high? This does not compute for the dufferz??

Re: Delaware Home Prices

I typed the wrong median. Not $400k, I meant to type $300k. It's still expensive around here and getting more so. A condo that was $90k in the mid 90's is probably $250k now.

Yes we do have a lot of crime here - the slime probably came when prices were more modest? Who knows?

Sounds like every home should come with a security system installed.
