The First Post!

Just wanted to be the first post in this forum!

Not like I spent a lot of time in D.C. but I'll offer any help I can. I spent a summer in the city so I like to think I actually LIVED in Washington. I was intern at the time so I lived in someone's basement. I actually forgot their names already... I "worked" at Kaiser in Rockville but I commuted from the Walter Reed area. Thought it would be really cool to live in the heart of the city.

Anyway, I think Washington is a dynamic city and I consider it to be my favorite. It is truly unique. It might get a bad wrap in a lot of ways: politics, crime, etc. but there is only one capital city and there is so much to do there--especially for a nerd like me!

Re: The First Post!

Been to DC a couple of times (Dad was a real history buff) it was a nice place to vacation when I was a kid. However I went back as an adult to visit and it seemed like a place I would not want to live. Bad traffic and tons of crime!

Did I just go and have a bad experience or is it always like that?

Pro-eye.

I like azi's dad am a big fan of history. I have never been there, will some day. What we on the left coast hear is that crime and poverty and a very poor standard of living is the norm for this area, forcing most out to the surrounding states. Is this accurate, or a urban legend?

Oh of course. Typical white flight from the "inner city".

The D.C. area is very nice, which is also why it's very expensive. The area is absolutely beautiful. Few people would want to live in the inner city except for yuppies who want to live in those few exclusive areas that are still maintained.

It's a fascinating place to be and I swear you could spend a lifetime in Washington and not see everything...

I was quite young at the time, had virtually no responsibilities, got paid for my internship, so my friend and I basically goofed around for a summer. Best time I ever had. This other guy was also an intern and it was nice that two female residents showed up after a month...

After that mind-altering summer, we wrote a guide to D.C. on where to go and what to see, with heavy emphasis on cheap beer and slender ladies... LOL

Intern? Monica? is that you Monica?

Sorry. could not resist.

DC is one of the places I would love to go, for the history, the architecture, the smithsonian.

Mayby I'll declare for a run at the white house. How does "president dufferz" sound?

OH. hmm. I am so sorry. You are certainly not the monica I was talking about... I would guess, just as I am not the President... yet.

Just wondering though, seriously, did the whole lewinsky (there, is that better) thing really bother you in that you share the same first name? I sure have not seen many kids born since with that name.

Nope I am not THAT Monica but you will get a kick out of this... I was spending my time back then with a good friend named Bill.. talk about getting razzed.

And living in the land of country clubs My friend called ahead and let the gate know I would be coming by and the security put my under L instead of M or under my last name... When he found it, I asked his reasoning behind putting it under L he said that Lewinsky name to mind and he must have just put it there....

It was not an easy time!!!

Re: The First Post!

I grew up in DC! Well, not actually IN DC - I lived 22 years of my life from a babe to a young adult in Northern VA - but as an older teen, and a young adult, obviously THE place to go, be in, and work was DC... so in a sense I did "grow up" in DC.

I loved it! BUT, this was also before it has gotten (from what I hear) overfilled with people, cars, etc. I mean it was "bad" then - but now I hear it's barely liveable.

I was also too young to worry about silly things such as crime and statistics (sarcasm). I went to clubs in Southeast DC (the WORST) all the time.

As an real adult now - with children - yikes... don't know how I made it through!! :)
