Politicians in DC

With housing prices declining and the reputation of DC being a high crime area, is it safe to assume that politicians for the us government do not live within the boarders of the city?

I wonder if Markablue Moderator knows the difference between washington DC and washington state?

You mean Markablue, Owner/Admin? Also, B-I-T-... Well you know the rest...

Just got back from D.C. a few minutes ago... Took a drive down there with the family just for something to do.

Hey, guess what mess I ended up in! The war protests on CNN that they were broadcasting 24/7 (and Fox was completely ignoring). The Capitol and the Mall were full of hippie protesters, maybe around 10,000-20,000 of them and I swear it was Woodstock II. Okay, didn't see a lot of smoking going on or people taking their clothes off--seems only PITA people do that. Anyway, just seemed like too many libs for me to handle. As I say, my patience on Iraq is waining but I'm not a protester either. The signs were just laughable. Sheesh... do these people have jobs I wonder?

Anyway... D.C. has changed since I was there in '95. They sure did a good job on the portrait gallery. Wouldn't be surprised that it cost us tax payers $1 billion for the renovations--and it was 5 times the estimate and it took 5 times as long as anticipated...

My 9 yo daughter didn't seem too interested in seeing the Hall of Presidents. "Daddy, can we go now?" "Hey! Pay attention! You're going to need to know this stuff in a few years!"

Where politicians live... Well, I don't know. As you go north and west, it gets better. But then there isn't too much real estate in the NW section. I imagine that most politicians do not live in D.C. proper. The closest they live is probably in Bethesda and Chevy Chase. Seems like Rock Creek Park is the dividing line, like a big fat fence, between the clambering masses who want to kill, steal, and maim, and the rest of civilized society. Or maybe it's a fence to keep them in?

I lived on the east side... The "bad" side... For one summer in '95. Wasn't too bad though since it was on the north side of town, but then maybe I wasn't there long enough to get murdered. I was the only "white" guy in the area and there sure were a lot of outdoor parties going on at 3 am every day. Wow, it gets really, really scary as you go south and east. Never been on the south side, on the other side of I-295, but I've heard that it's terrifying...

We took a wrong turn driving across U.S. 50 going home from the downtown area. Sheesh, trash everywhere, people walking in the streets--"Hey, man need a jump? Need a jump anyone? " Some weirdo walking around with jumper cables shouting as if anyone was even in the cold, snowy streets. If that wasn't bad enough, even in the downtown, I swear there were more homeless people than in warm, sunny San Diego!!! Guess it's our wonderful government at its best!!!

Most of the gov't officials I've known about have their second-home in Virginia for when the Senate or Congress is in session. Can't recall which town - but it's that biggie right there by DC. One of my family researchers just moved from there ... whatever the heck it is.

Yeah, Old Town Alexandria is where many politicians are.

I was just all home sick for a minute...
