| Re: Hurricanes I am not worried about it, but I am also new to Florida. I have not heard anybody mention anything about hurricanes here. I think more were predicted for last year than this year. Not a single Hurricane made landfall last year.

This is our first summer in Florida, also. At least with hurricanes, one gets ample warning and can evacuate if necessary. Unfortunately, with the warmer water of the Gulf, our chances are higher for a hurricane here than on the eastern side of Florida.

We lived in SW Florida and were hit with Hurricane Charley. We were in Punta Gorda and the storm was supposed to go Tampa. We only had about an hour notice that the storm was changing course and heading towards us. It's not fun, let me tell ya. Just be prepared and make sure you have a generator. We were without power for over a week and the temps were in the mid 90's. Yuk.

I sand-bagged Miami Beach three different times. Each time, the storm veered! But on a Sunday drive in NW FL, I found myself driving about 10ft above the road surface for several hundred feet ... and gently put right back down in my lane. Once again, the storm had veered - but this one wasn't supposed to approach the coast! In those days however, life was all about how long it took to get from one "Big Daddy's Liquor Store and Lounge" ... to the next. I barely noticed anything.

Oh that stinks! If anything is expected to hit any part of the East coast I'm outta here, better safe than sorry. I'm not gonna give that sucker a chance to hit me. Quote:
I think we are better off with no predictions because they are never right. Nobody predicted something like Katrina now they all want to get on the storm bandwagon. | ||
