Orlando Area

Is anybody here from the Orlando area? Which suburbs would you recommend as nice and safe places to live? Somebody elsewhere recommended Winter Park, Winter Garder, Clermont, and Oviedo. Which areas are the ones to stay way from?

What is the deal with all the crime there? I recently saw it on a top 10 list for most dangerous cities in its population rage. I would have expected to see Miami on the list before Orlando. My parents had a vacation condo in Kissimmee when I was younger. It seemed like a nice area back then, but it has probably been about 8 years or more since I was last there.

You just can't feel safe anywhere anymore. Orlando is nice but you need to be very careful with all the things that go on.

I always felt safe in most of the Minneapolis metro area before moving away this past summer. I do not feel safe in most places around the Charlotte, North Carolina area where I am now, including my own apartment. Crime here is ridiculous, Wal-Mart has security people in the parking lot, the grocery store has a guy with a gun at the door, and my apartment has an alarm system with a panic button in the bedroom. I had never seen any of that before moving here.

What happened is gangsta rap....there's alot of wannabee thugs running around...they want to be like thier heros, 50cent, Kenya West, SnoopDog and so on...people just refuse to see the truth. Our friends said there was gangsta rap blaring from houses and cars constantly...they said it was a war zone..My husbands fathers cousin worked in one of the theme parks for many yrs..they are old and had to move also because of all the crime there.

Re: Orlando Area

I am sorry so many have had bad experiences here in Florida. Crime is just out of control all over. We live in the Melbourne area on the coast and just love it. It's more of a small town , casual beach living since we are less than 10 mins from beaches. Plenty of work here with Harris Corp., GE, etc. My son and family live in east orlando and it takes us 45 mins to get there. We frequent Orlando often with no problems. We moved here from upstate NY in 1985 and would never go back. Love it here!

Re: Orlando Area

I think that every county or town has it's ghetto area and it is a damned shame. The town starts out a beautiful place with well kept homes and nice ppl, then BOOM, it turns into a ghetto and all the hard work put into homes and a town goes to hell!

Punta Gorda is still pretty safe here in Florida. We are moving up to Pa though. We miss the family and hate hurricanes.

I know what a shame right? I would have LOVED to live in Florida. I used to visit a lot when I lived in NY. LOVED IT!!!!! That crime is scary though!

As it stands right now, my town has the lowest crime rate in the state. Every state has it's crime areas...you would have to live in an under water cave to escape crime...Even when a town is relatively crime free, it sooner or later will have crime. I adore it here and unless it turns into a ghetto, i'm never moving. Other then hurricanes of course, the weather is so perfect here. The 3 canes we had were said to be very unusual for south east Fl...most canes are on the west (gulf) side.

We should have moved there years ago instead of AZ.

Are you just moving to a different house in the same area?

I am surprised that you have not yet made use of the Classifieds section here.

Re: Orlando Area

I am staying in my nice house in Land O Lakes, selling brand new construction in Wesley Chapel. I will have to get an ad in that Classified section.... I just keep clicking the "new posts" button and following email links on certain threads... so I missed the Classified section being available! Thank you for the personal invite!!! I will check it out!!!
