I researched all of Fl and as i see it, i am in the best place possible and that is Porst Saint Lucie..it has everything and is beautiful and still affordable. Crime is extremely low and there's no ghettos...yet..LOL..There's always going to be one or so ppl that will disagree.

My brother and sister-in-law first moved to South Miami 22 years ago until Hurricane Andrew. Now, they live in Plantation, just outside of Ft Lauderdale. They love it; my brother was a past Councilman there, and is active in a number of civic projects ... says he wouldn't live anywhere else... Me, I'm a recent Texican...

Last year my husband and I worked in FT. Pierce. (Yes, we drove an hour and a half each way everyday.) Many of the people we worked with were from Ft. Pierce and many were from PSL. ALL were the friendliest, nicest bunch of people you'd ever want to meet! It is a very nice area.

I hate Treasure Island near St. Pete Beach the most ever since a friend and I were both beat up and robbed by 5 guys there back in the summer of '97.

Brevard County is still small town living, affordable, and still not a commercialized tourist area. It's right on the coast, 30 mins. from Cape Canaveral and the liftoffs which are absolutely beautiful.

Thumbs up Re: Best or Worst City to live in Florida

We moved here to Sarasota FL. three years ago. The area and the beaches are lovely. It is very hard to move to another state after living your whole life in MA, or any other state. If anyone decides to make a move like that, pick a community that has a club house so that you may meet people. We haven't met anyone. There isn't a community clubhouse here. We have met a few neighbors around us, but we haven't started a friendship with anyone. The weather here is the best and the landscaping is very pretty all year. It very seldom rains here. There is a lot to do here. We do more outside here.

Thumbs up Navarre...definitely!!

We just recently relocated to Navarre, FL from Baton Rouge, LA. Words truly cannot express how much I love it here compared to Louisiana. It just wasn't my place. All that I can say is that I never realized that there was a paradise on Earth such as Navarre. The people here are very hospitable and friendly and there are so many things to do within about 30 minutes. I love the fact that the city we live in is only about 29,000. (approximately)

I grew up in a small town in Minnesota and after living in San Antonio and Baton Rouge (San Antonio just keeps growing and growing!) I was ready for a little less commotion...especially since my son will be starting school soon.

Anyone who is thinking of moving to Florida should definitely consider this area...come visit and it will take about ten minutes to understand what I'm saying!!

Bailyboo, is the traffic a lot worse in the summer because of DisneyWorld? Is the humidity worse because you don't really get the ocean breeze?

Well I will start my research as of this minute. I'm already sick of Charlotte.
Do you see many homes with basements there?

I'm sorry to hear that, A1m...unfortunately, basements in Florida are very rare due to the water table. What is it about Charlotte that you don't really like?

The job situation is not what it's cracked up to be. I'm signed up with 5 agencies and I've gotten an offer here and there but the pay is extremely low. When I was researching jobs before I moved it looked promising but I think I was mistaken

I'm not sure how the Florida job market is but I'm checking.

Sounds very frustrating. My hubby actually took a pay cut to move here...just so would be able to get out of Louisiana. The cost of living is generally a bit lower here than average, which helps. We decided that it we would much rather be making a little less and happy than making more and miserable. It's not always easy to weigh the options; it really depends on what is most important to you. If there's anything I can find out for you, let me know. As I'm sure you're aware of, I really adore this area, but it's not for everyone.

I'm in the accounting field, I think Charlotte is getting some many transplants now the job market is starting to tighten. I did however get an offer today to work as a contractor for Duke Energy making .50 less an hour less than I made in Phoenix. This is a contracter position though, they may hire me in the future or they might not. I will not stop searching for something better but at least I'll be getting a paycheck.

Working as a contractor is definitely not all bad! I preferred to do that in Texas because I wanted to make sure I really wanted to be a part of the company before I signed on. I found that most of the time I was eventually offered a permanent position with the company. I'm really glad you found something to at least get you by...that can be a little stressful.

Yeah I agree, I got my last two jobs through agencies. I start Tuesday I'll let you know how I like it.

While I was in Cincinnati last year, Duke acquired the electric company. They presented a good public image ... thru the mail.
Once you're established a bit - holla. I need to see my final bill disappear.
And good luck.

Looks like Sebring is in central, central Florida. Is your son into racing? I read something about a Formula One grand prix race in Sebring.

Re: Best or Worst City to live in Florida

There is also a "gravity hill" in the vicinity of Sebring. Anybody know where that is?
There's one in Utah (SL Valley) that is a little more dramatic but if you drive over the hill shift to neutral and stop, the hill will pull you back up it ... backwards.
There's a way to make a profit off of that hill. I propose a bowling alley.
