Moving to Orlando?

I'm moving to Orlando soon and I was wondering if anyone can recommend an apartment complex under $1000 a month that is safe. We only need a one bedroom. It doesn't have to be fancy but I don't want a place that's really run down either.

Hello Ginny,
I moved from the nyc long island suburb area to fla 4 years ago. I kind of like a little woodsy, so I started at a certain apt in Kissimmee, but when I had work, I found the 34 mi commute into Orlando kind of silly.
Orlando is a fairly tough area to get to know.. it has a lot of pockets of good and bad areas. Not to scare you away, but Orlando was just rated number 11 on the FBI list of dangerous cities. Even some of what were considered nicer areas, like Metrowest, have gotten hit w/ some rather bad crimes. Waterford has been getting driveway robberies. "The element" seems to want to make sure that no area goes untouched.
My boyfriend and I share a 2/1 in The Arbors at Maitland. That's on the north side of Orlando. It's gated, as many complexes are. It's quite pretty. I love being close to a great pool.. there's several. There's a great gym. They do a lot w/ topiary. It's a place w/character vs. the standard complex.
I don't know of any other place that I would want to switch over to, and I've looked around.
On the less positive side, it doesn't feel so much like it's nestled in a community as some apt complexes may feel. It's off Maitland Blvd which is a fast paced highway, but also makes it an easy hop to I-4 the main hwy to downtown.
I pay $935 for a 2/1 which would be $108 more w/o the lease discount.
I read over your q's & a's to get to know you some.
If I've sold you on this place, you must have some coffee (or other) and chat w/ me by the poolside! :)

I would look at Altamonte Springs area, which is north of the city of Orlando. Very nice suburb, and nice complexes. I found a complex called Ravens Crossings which has some good prices, and near all the stores.

Stay away from O.B.T, Orange blossom trail, Oak Ridge, Tangalo Park, and parramore ( da ghetto!!!!!!)
