Moving to Jacksonville, FL in a couple years, and would like some input on these...

...neighborhoods.? I've looked at the Duval County Public Schools website, and got some useful information on the areas that have "A" schools. It looks like it's harder to find "A" high schools than it is to find "A" middle and elementary schools. I will need to live in an area with great public schools, and as low crime as possible (I know Jax is known for high crime). And I'm looking for a small starter home for around $200K. Is that even possible??

As far as traffic, cost of living, housing costs, safety, and public schools, what is your opinion on these areas in or near Jacksonville, FL...

Duval County: Kernan area, Atlantic Blvd area, Mandarin area, Baymeadows, Deerwood, San Marco

St. Johns County: Julington/Switzerland, Fruit Cove, Palm Valley, Ponte Vedra, Ponte Vedra Beach

Clay County: Orange Park (Clay Cty)

Nassau County: Amelia Island/Fernandina Beach

Are there any other areas that are close to Jacksonville where you would recommend living? Thanks for helping me out!!

I live on Amelia Island. It is a really nice area. You may be able to find a really basic home for around $200,000 on the Island , but you are more likely to find a nicer home off the Island in the Yulee area. The schools are another story all together. Yulee's High School opens next year. Previously students from that area attended Fernandina Beach High School. I don't know how good YHS is gonna be, but FBHS is really bad. The guidance department doesn't do much guiding. (I didn't even meet my counselor until my senior year) The schools in Camden county Georgia are very good though. The drive from that area to Jax takes just as long as the drive from Amelia to Jax. The plus to living in Camden county....Cheaper Homes. Way cheaper. My best friend's 2000sqft home in GA was 100k whereas ours on the Island is smaller 1500sqft and double the price. Okay I know that was a long winded answer, hope it helps!
