Thinking about moving to Florida...?

I'm from Louisiana, so I think I'd be able to handle the hot weather and bugs. However, I have NO clue what Florida is like. I'm moving with my brother, and we're basically looking for a place that's cheap, safe enough to be able to sleep at night, and uh...>.> well that's it. It doesn't have to be next to the ocean, or in a huge city. We're very flexible, and the beach doesn't interest us that much anyway. We just need a place that's affordable, and safe. Somebody said that Florida was like the 8th most dangerous state in the country--is this true? My brother's a construction worker and I'm a computer tech, would Florida be a good place for us?

Well, to tell you the truth, there are parts of Florida that can be a bit rough, especially West Palm Beach, Opa Locka, parts of Miami (especially the Liberty City and Little Haiti sectors), Orlando and Jacksonville. Also possibly parts of Fort Myers that may get a little bumpy. Florida being ranked the 8th most dangerous state isn't something that should keep everyone from moving there, especially since no place on this earth is perfect.
