Re: concerns

So give it a shot despite the many cons according to citycaca?

Should I find a coastal area? That might be a little less unbearable heat and only like 90 minutes to Orlando/the parks. Anyone know an East-Coast-of-Florida city with good jobs, and not too far from Orlando? Or should I stick w/ Orlando area? Are the coastal areas a LOT more hurricane prone (I'm not talking about living right on the beach, but a few miles away, so I'd be nervous; but inland seems to have a higher tornado risk - so should I go w/ the coast and more hurricanes or inland and more tornadoes?) Are there more bugs inland or coastal?

KDM, my Florida experiences are a bit dated - but I'd seriously recommend staying within five miles of the coast as you can live inland almost anywhere in the country. I preferred life down south - south of Miami - for the 'Glades, the Keys and the party but then, it's about 12 hrs to get out of the state! Many of the east-coast towns are high-dollar operations so it's my guess that you'd want to look nearer to Jacksonville. Of course, if you pick Orlando, you'll probably always be able to get work at DisneyWorld

Re: concerns

btw, like the orginal poster suggested, I think it was MBTENN ? there's always 'beautiful east TN" !

One thing posters should know however, an other poster told me that this poster is a person named Mary Beth Morgan who is a mortgage broker/saleperson in Kingsport area, and she spends a lot of her day on the web talking up the area and I guess getting sales leads !..just google MBTENN and you will find out for yourself..other info is that she couldn't cut it in Florida, got divorced, got re-married to a local 'hill-person' in east TN..I'm always amazed at people and their duplictitous nature, even while hiding behind the computer screen !

Wow Kev you sound just like me! That's is exactly the stuff I'd be asking. I wouldn't listen to citi-caca because if you read the stuff on the Arizona forum you would never move here and it isn't nearly as bad as everyone says. Since you are going to rent if it was me I would live by the beach and I would have my bad packed and my gas tank filled up for any kind of hurricane threat. I would leave as soon as the hurricane popped up on the radar and said it could possibly hit my area. At least you have time to get away from the hurricane, the tornados really scare me. As far as the bugs are concerned just make sure when you look at apartments you ask them to take you to several different units and start looking in the draws and cabinets of them. I learned a lesson the hard way. The complex showed me a model apt and then when I got my apartment it was full of roaches and my neighbors said the same thing. I stayed 1 hour and got my money back. You just need a building that keeps up with the pest control and doesn't have an ongoing problem where these bugs are in the walls.
