How about a different color for the names of the top ten posters?

This would encourage folks to post and get the higher ranking and the new color of their name.

Wyody has me beat right now...but I'm number 6 out of ten. I want to be purple.

Hey Izz, you can have my spot! I didn't come here for the posting-trophy. I'm supposed to be the guy in the back who, when everybody else is done, brings up the Ben Franklin quote that already said it all a couple of hundred years ago.
Here's the importance. 576 posts after this - and only a very few are responses to anybody wishing to move to a state. That would strike me as about 570 recreational posts - no need. I don't get paid well enough here to carry a whole room!!

Okay...Wyody, apparently I missed the Ben Franklin quote. I'm afraid to ask what it is...knowing you. But I will go down the path. Quote please?

Re: How about a different color for the names of the top ten posters?

I do think that there have been attempts to up the postings. Getting more postings on the site have been an objective mentioned in several threads, if my memory is correct. The site has on occasion mentioned the top posters in a thread. So my idea is just one more way to achieve it. I didn't realize how high I was until this morning. I decided "part-timer" on my avatar needed to go. Since I chat so much here, I'm now in the top ten. I guess I do like it here...and spend more time here than I thought. Hummmm...something to think about.

I missed the last paragraph on this one...first time around. Or did you add to it...I just checked we are almost to 5,000 post in the lounge. Do we know what the total is for all the other sections? Is there a place on the sight to check it out?

Okay found it. Posts: 10,874 for the whole site...so minus the 4,794 made in the lounge...6080 posts in the rest of the forums. Do you think we will hit 10,000+ in the rest of the forms in the next couple of months?

Izzy I think that would cause some to post short posts with no real content all over the forum just to get up there. Don't you think?

Well...hadn't thought about anyone being that way. I guess if we have folks here that would do that...then it wouldn't work. Do you really think we have members who are like that?

Re: How about a different color for the names of the top ten posters?

Okay...Since you are here. Maybe you could answer another question for me. If a tread starts to go into a certains state's area...could that part of the thread be moved to the state it applies too? Saw it done at c-d. When a banning came up in a thread that wasn't related to banning...then the posts that were about banning got moved to the thread addressing banning. Can you move posts to a state if it applies to that state. Wouldn't that be a way for people who are searching to get all the info. on the state without searching unrelated sections? Can't think of any posts right now that would apply. Just curious.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Moving threads around or even parts of threads is wayyyy too confusing. That was one of the things that really ticked me off about CD. There is a search feature on this site that will find all relevent info.

I agree.

At C-D you would open a forum and see "moved". It didn't say where to, it didn't say why, it seemed to clearly say "you got no business opening this, WERE CLOSED".

I think if a topic leaves the reservation and becomes a good sub topic, a new thread should be started by anyone who wants to start it. The bad part is that it leaves behind what was already discussed, but the good part is that if it is a popular topic, all will be discussed several times over anyway. You should have seen some of the threads at C-D where by page 5, nobody read what was said on page two, and what was said on page 6 was the same thing that was said on page two and three... and holy smokes, by page 40.... eek.

PDX...from what I understand, only whole threads may be moved possibly in the future if they are obviously in the wrong part of the forum. Great point about the search feature, though; it helps tremendously.

Re: How about a different color for the names of the top ten posters?

Okay...I guess I wasn't at c-d long enough for it to bother me. I just see where we, this site, often trail off into other subjects, on the same thread.

Some of those post might benefit the state forums...but I guess...what Pan did would work...and that is provide a link to the new thread...where the topic changes...and another thread is created. I'm refering to the "Hate State" thread just started, from a old thread.

It is nice to discuss how we all should do something a certain way here. Such as start a new thread, if we get to far off topic.

I'm with you, Izzy; there is no way to please everyone, but I think admin is doing a great job, especially considering the fact that he/she has so many things to juggle.

Re: How about a different color for the names of the top ten posters?

Yes, and I think if we come up with a simple soluation like Pan did...then that saves Admin some work. I think Admin has done a great job. He has managed to create a place where folks from different walks of life can all come and get state info., research locations, and meet people from different areas.

Thanks again, Admin.

To encourage new folks in that way ... I think you'd need "rewards" spaced at lower levels than that, like every factor of 10 (so changes happen at posts 11, 101, 1001, ...). Right now the top people are at 500 to a thousand, roughly, numbers that will only increase with time, unless we chase more people away .

Re: How about a different color for the names of the top ten posters?

Yeah, you're right jabm67... I really like the fact that along with the blue name came some extra options from admin. That kind of "reward" would be nice for folks...who hit a certain number of post...as you suggested at mile stones...11, 101, 1001.

Hopefully folks won't get chased away...and if they do...let's hope they come back to see us.:)
