Are we dieing?

There seems to be a lack of support, or activity.. only a few of us who try to keep it going.. and I hate to see it. Looks like this site is dieing a slow painful death.

It's been like this since the JenBar Days, Pan. Pity the fool that was throwing their support behind her. Amazing how one person can cyclone a whole village, ain't it?
This site has been operating off "The Lounge" ever since - was supposed to be a relocation site. Well, I say that - but then I realize that Admin and The Dufferz and maybe Farlee got ousted from CD for, mostly, stuff on forums other than relocation - so, maybe that's only my take on things ... but that's why I got invited over (that and being a "nearly-sane" sort of insane) ... (er ... what I meant was ... a "nearly-genius" sort of insane).
Now, PDX was in that group as well but I only knew of him as being attached to the state forums. This was an intelligent group of folks when I first came in. The Right-Wing had enough folks for a majority - which made it uncomfortable for the left-wingers ... of which there were - and are - only a very few. Then, by shear-numbers, a "dumbing-down" came into play ... which seemed to mildly irritate the right-wing factions but had not yet driven anybody out (that I knew of).
Once the JenBar thing happened, the entire premise of the site (which was, basically, "say what you really think") showed a major flaw - that a person could come on here and wreak any sort of havoc they wanted - and nothing would be done about it. Every thread - ruined. And then, any sort of hard-headed conflict kept driving others away - people acting like "bulldog ex-cops" and the like, bashing people like a drunk with a pool-cue when, prior to that, conversations were at a "higher level" ... and who can forget the days of Jewish Attack Dogs? A whole bunch of bad timing. To my knowledge, ol' Rainbow Waves wasn't spouting much racial-dogma crap ... just posting away on her state ... but then got called on it - and of course, had to go. It seems there is a limit to just exactly what "anything goes" means - and many folks felt unprotected here. It is still like that to some degree but the strong leaders of the right are gone (or silent in their weaker majority) while the left hasn't grown one iota. Well, I digress ... what I know would fill a dime-baggie.
And don't you forget it!

I was surprised to hear you mention JenBar instead of Rainbow Waves first. I agree that it was the JenBar thing that broke the back of the site...although I hate to give her so much credit. But I have some observations on that situation.

I, during the heat of the whole thing, went to cd and did some research on Jenbar...over there most of what I read of her posts was extremely mild compared to her posts here. Very civil. Non - combative. One of her supporters here is now a mod. there.

I still feel that she wreaked havic here, with an end in mind...and that was to drive everyone back to cd.

Rainbow wave was and is a racist by her own admission. Was her reason here to be combative or racist? Or both. I stayed away from those threads...pretty much. Did a search for her on the web, and found she was posting to a racist site. Her comments there were that she was on talkstates to show us a thing or two and invite others from that site to do battle here.

But I found Rainbow to be more straight forward then Jenbar. Rainbow was what she was plain and simple. Jenbar wasn't. I would respond to her post and she would take it all wrong or read something into it...always on the defensive and in attack mode. "A poor little me, you're all attacking me"...then a knife to the gut...with "you're just being to sensitive and need to get out here" everytime someone refused to do battle or tried to reason with her.

But...I miss Farlee...who is the one who invited me here...and I miss a lot of the other folks who presented there ideas and debates in a way that folks could join in.

We still have strong personalities here and I believe we agree to disagree...without ripping each others guts out. We just need some new blood to liven things up. How to accomplish that...is in admins. hands.

Izzy, I probably missed a lot of what was going on as it was, in my eyes, going on over on the Florida thread and there seemed to be a lot of people posting there. I had a few observations based on my time spent in Florida ... but not much. I was pretty-much alone on the Wyoming, Utah, Montana and Ohio Forums.
So, if Rainbow was "racing" out, I kinda missed it 'til JenBar came along.
I agree that her posts on other sites were "milder" ... and have sometimes wondered if it was JenBar at all.
At that particular time, I was one of the first "unarmed" debaters over here - having facts and figures for a few things but mostly playing the advocate and not the "know-it-all". Actually, I was also new to being online and hadn't had to provide substantive, supportive information for group debate in a very long time ... so, playing "fair" was all I had.
We do have some good folks over here - and if you think this site is dead, you oughtta see another site I was invited to out of C-D ... sucker is "cobweb city" but a nice place to check in now and then.
I say, a little "computer-addiction" can be a good thing. This site would probably have disappeared if most of us didn't have it!

I am still working on it, but I have been spending most of my time during the past week on another project. Now I am finished with that and can now focus some more of my time back here.

Thanks to everyone that has stayed with us this long. Hopefully I can get things to pick back up again soon. I really need to get this place out of the red.
