How about a button or something you could click to get a list of threads that you've posted in, listing the ones with the most recent posts first? I'm always forgetting where I've posted and it's tedious trying to track down every post to see if any new responses are warranted. I know you can get that by doing an advanced search, but it would be nice if it were more convenient. Maybe you could have something like "newest posts by username" and "newest posts in threads that username has posted in. You could have a choice of drop down menu or typing in a name. And if one is logged in their username would be first. ----- BTW, what does adding someone to your buddy list do? |

You could also try, "Quick Links, My profile, then Find all posts by CandyApple or Find all threads started by CandyApple". You can click on anybody elses name and do the same thing to see all of their posts or threads. Buddy list pretty much just shows their online status, and has a button to PM them, you can view your buddy list under "Quick Links, Buddy List", it is a small popup.

So that's what buddy list does! I thought it would give the person my e-mail or something, so I didn't want to try it to find out what it does. -- Going to advanced search and searching by username does exactly what I want... it's just that I forget about it sometimes because it's not obvious, and I get lazy about typing my username out each time I come on, that's all. -- I'm not really a fan of e-mail notification, but if there were a page on this site I could click on to read my "subscribed threads" that would be good. You could have something in thread tools that says "watch this thread-(do not e-mail)". Maybe in My Profile or somewhere it could say "view recent posts in watched threads". There could be a "stop watching" button, too. |

Go to the "Edit Options" part of your user control panel. Set "Default Thread Subscription Mode" to "No email notification". Scroll down and click "Save Changes". You should then be auto subscribed to any new thread that you post in. If you want to keep an eye on a thread that you have not posted in or posted in before turning subscription on, go to the thread and click "Subscribe to this Thread" under the "Thread Tools" dropdown menu. To view your subscribed thread list click "Quick Links, My subscriptions", from there you can delete any that you no longer wish to follow.

A word of suggestion - you should probably set it to OFF by default. Most people don't really need to be emailed for every reply, and it will annoy more then help them. If they wanna read new posts, they'll probably come here...so you should turn off the emails by default. Just IMO.

I agree with kdm31091, off by default is better. If you're worried about someone signing up, posting, and then forgetting where the website is, you could e-mail them once thanking them for making their first post or something, maybe highlighting some forum features while you're at it. It could include a link to the thread they posted in. |
