mods responsibility

I was on another forum site and was reading about what the mods do there. I was wondering if the mods on this site have these policies:

Quote:
You are absolutely correct. There is no rule in the book that says you have to keep a thread running forever or that you can’t divide a thread in two. I am supposed to say something when the discussion rambles Off Topic. The thing I would point out to all is that this is a Forum on the state of Oregon and people looking for information on its cities of interest to them. All that we talk about should relate to Oregon. I promise to do a better job of keeping threads On Topic. I don’t want to see threads go on and on forever either like, How do Oregonians feel about outsiders? That one should be closed not for its content but because no one is reading it before they post.

The other thing that is being discussed on the Moderators Forum is deleting posts that make big claims or assertions without citing any supporting evidence. We are to delete those. Spam, personal attacks, and Advertising will be deleted also.

As your Moderator, I will fix typos that I see. Once you leave your posting and later find you need to make a correction, please email me and I’ll be happy to fix it for you. For a while, I was fixing misspelled words and in a couple of cases grammar but I really don’t have time to do that. One of the things I do and I think Steve does, no one can be so eloquent as Steve is without typing it onto a word processor and then cut and paste on the forum. His posts are picture perfect! If we need to make a correction it can be done before it is posted on the Forum. Once there, you get another chance to fix it.

Lastly, there is a Moderator that moderates the Moderators. There are about 11 of us in charge of reading over 2,020 posts a day and monitoring over 95,000 threads and over 400 new members per day.

As I stated in my response to Steve, all posts without supporting evidence will be deleted. Posts that promote causes will be considered Spam and deleted. Posts that bash a Moderator will be deleted and banned. Negative posts that are meant to deliberately discourage a newcomer from moving to the state will be deleted. Posts that inflame will be deleted. Negative attacks against another member are prohibited. It never hurts to read the Forum Rules at the top.

Thanks for asking.

We are getting a bit Off Topic with the spiders here. I can understand the humor of it all but I have to keep the subject of this thread on the topic of Meth?

Thanks you for your cooperation.

Thumper said in the movie Bambi, “If you can’t say something nice, then don’t say nothing at all.” I had a Oregon teacher in an Oregon School say to us Oregon students, "you can keep you mouth shut and let people wonder if you have your act together, or you can open your mouth and remove all doubt."

Is it to much to ask to talk about something positive about Oregon?

What level of mod support should be expect from this site?

And if you can't stand the suspense... this place was created in part because Admin felt that "other" place of which you speak was overly moderated.

I am still in the process of writing out a few simple guidelines for moderators to reference when I finally do start adding them. You can expect much less moderation than that other place you are talking about, too much moderation there was a big reason for starting this forum. Spam and advertising will still be removed from sight, but helpful supporting links will not be, greatschools.net for example was a link that I often saw deleted at the forum that you are talking about, with little or no reason in my opinion. Posts will not be deleted and threads will not be closed just for wandering a little off topic in a couple posts, I have been both a member and admin of multiple forums for years and know this just happens in forums, it keeps people talking. Threads might get split if they get way off topic to the point of it justifying a second thread, but probably not in most cases. Posts and threads will not be removed simply because they have negative information or opinions, unless somebody is going around posting something stupid like "OMGZ FLORIDA SUCKS HAHALOLZ!!!111!!" in every thread, I know that not everyone sees the world through rose colored glasses, and there are negatives to living in some places which should be allowed to be discussed. Moderators will not have the ability to permanently delete posts or threads, they will have the ability to hide posts from sight which I can restore, and they will have the ability to move threads to a hidden "recycling bin" forum which I can also restore them from. Member feedback about moderators will be taken seriously and discussed in a staff forum to decide if changes need to be made to moderator actions. I appreciate the help that moderators do, but also know that they are not always right, unlike the admin of that other forum.
