| Purpose/future of this forum
So, question to the Administrator: Is the purpose of this forum... A. just to serve as a place where a few City-Data members can come? B. serve as an alternative to City-Data, hoping to attract new members who are roaming the web, looking for relocation info? I'm all for a forum that promotes a more free environment! But the reason why I ask is, people find the City-Data forum by first following a link on the City-Data website (where there is tons of information on cities and states in the US). How do you expect this forum to compete with that? Where and how would a person find this forum? It would be nice to see this forum take off, but I'm afraid it won't unless you have a plan. Basically, if I want to get info on a location, I'm going to go where all the people are so I can talk to them, and if it is easy to find City-Data.com, there will probably always be lots of people there. Obviously we can't just keep PMing people from City-Data forever! Any thoughts? |

| RE: Purpose/future of this forum
Good question. I am hoping for this to serve as an alternative forum and attract more new members that are roaming the web for relocation info. The first few members came from City-Data and helped get the first posts started. The first few members and posts are the hardest to get for any forum. The next members will start mostly coming from online advertisements that I have purchased. Eventually people should find us in their relocation type search results from places like Yahoo, Google, and MSN. If you look at the "Who's Online" list here, you will often see "GoogleBot" and "Yahoo Slurp" online. Those are their search engine spiders indexing everything posted here. Once this site has enough information posted and indexed by their spiders, it should move up their rankings far enough to come in on the first page of search results for certain terms having to do with the topics of this forum. |

We are starting to get listed in the search engines. 12% of all visitors in the past week came from Yahoo searches. Google and MSN visits are still very low compared to Yahoo, but they should catch up as we gain more content. I have also noticed visitors coming from Yahoo Mail, Google Mail, and Verizon Mail, so some people here must be emailing links to friends. |

Hi Admin!!!! (who are you?? LOL) shhh, I won't tell Anyhow, this is a great thing that you started. I wanted to do the same thing but didn't know how to. I started a group on Yahoo too but it's very small right now. It's for community news, free for sale ads, etc. I will be telling all my friends at that City-dictator oops, data place to come on over. Hope we end up with nice people here. It's good to be fair with the members unlike markablue and his mods over there. I have just about had it with em!!!! Glad to be here and will be here to help you out whenever you need it!!!! |
