What are the goals of this forum/site?

At city-data they took care of the "teaching" by deleting a post or banning someone. My hope for this forum is that we can have a civil battle, even to the point of yelling at each other, but all realize that beyond the topic of the day, we all can sit down, grab a iced tea and talk about things we agree with.

If someone is out of line, call them on it, like you did. If someone is only here to cause trouble, then silence is the language that neutralizes an argument.

Looking forward to hear more about PA.
Very well said. I do think you just laid out some guidelines for users on this site:) Which brings up the question...is the admin going to use moderators on this site? I hope he does and you're one of them.:)

I know right now that is a "dirty word" but in all honesty their has to be some guide lines and direction for folks...if not, I don't think folks coming here the first time will take this site, almost said our sight:), as a serious place to get state info.

They will see it as a site of friends, which is good, but might also sound clicky, you know what I mean. I'm hoping this site will have lots of info on the states so it becomes a:

"One stop all you need to know, if it's not here ask, and we will gladly help you" sight.

So let's talk about what we each hope this site will be in the future and "What about guidelines, rules, and moderators"

We will be having moderators, but moderation will not be as strict as elsewhere.

I covered most of my thoughts on it here.....

Spam and advertising will still be removed from sight, but helpful supporting links will not be, greatschools.net for example was a link that I often saw deleted at the forum that you are talking about, with little or no reason in my opinion. Posts will not be deleted and threads will not be closed just for wandering a little off topic in a couple posts, I have been both a member and admin of multiple forums for years and know this just happens in forums, it keeps people talking. Threads might get split if they get way off topic to the point of it justifying a second thread, but probably not in most cases. Posts and threads will not be removed simply because they have negative information or opinions, unless somebody is going around posting something stupid like "OMGZ FLORIDA SUCKS HAHALOLZ!!!111!!" in every thread, I know that not everyone sees the world through rose colored glasses, and there are negatives to living in some places which should be allowed to be discussed. Moderators will not have the ability to permanently delete posts or threads, they will have the ability to hide posts from sight which I can restore, and they will have the ability to move threads to a hidden "recycling bin" forum which I can also restore them from. Member feedback about moderators will be taken seriously and discussed in a staff forum to decide if changes need to be made to moderator actions. I appreciate the help that moderators do, but also know that they are not always right, unlike the admin of that other forum.

I like all that you have in mind. It all sounds fair to me.
