| Thread bumping etiquette?
I know different forums have different preferences with regards to thread bumping, so I'm wondering what the proper etiquette is at this forum. The way I see it, there's two forms of bumping- typing "bump" or some other such thing strictly to bring the post back up to the top, and adding content to older threads. The first one is frowned on at almost all forums I've been to, and I find it annoying when people do that. But the other kind of bumping... What I usually do is, in forums with few/no new posts, I'll add content to whatever post interests me. Or if there's an old thread I made that needs an "ending" (like my photography post on the "other" forum where I came back to it to share my solution to my quandary), I'll post something so that anyone reading it will be able to see how I solved the problem I had. Otherwise, I'm kind of reluctant to add posts to old threads because on some sites that's frowned on (they say to start a new thread if you have something to add), and other sites I'm not sure what's "appropriate". So, what's the "proper etiquette" on this site? |

If you bump, you get banned. Oops. Wrong site.

If I want to bump a thread, I add some positive or new info to it. It serves two purposes of bumping the thread to the top, but also giving information. I really hate it when people just say "Bump", but it should not be a banning offense. A good forum will police themselves.

But yeah, not afraid of getting banned over it, just don't wanna be annoying, that's all. :) Don't think others should be banned, either (unless *bump*s are the only posts they ever make). | |
