Posting pictures

I've tried countless times to post a picture. I just can't figure it out. I asked for help and somebody tried to help by telling me. Simply drop it in the picture bucket and then tell it where it's at? First off, I'm not sure what a picture bucket is, and I have no idea how to tell it where it's at when it asks me for http:// ?

Could somebody in laymens terms, please tell me how to post a picture?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Posting pictures

Hi Wymoing,

I have a personal website through my internet provider. I upload my pictures there and then when I come here... I click on the yellow mountain that you see in the message window I then use the path to my picute location. Example: http://home.comcast.net/~lesrox/photos.html

That has worked in attaching my pictures to messages. If you are still having problems...then I will PM you my home email and you can send it to me and I will upload it to my personal webpage, send you a copy of the path that you can copy paste into the message after clicking the mountain icon.

Is this a picture on your computer, or on a web site?

If on the computer, here is what I do.

Start the post like regular.

Hopefully you see at the top of the post window all of the edit options like your font, bold, underline etc. If you don't, you may need to activate this option (tell you how if you need to). You will see on the top row, next the white smile face a paperclip. Click this and you should have a dialog box come up with a listing of types of things you can download and the size restrictions. (Please note these size restriction carefully, many photo's taken on newer high megapix cameras are too large).

There are two options with the dialog box: upload from computer, upload from web. Click the browse button for computer, then a find dialog box comes up. Find the pic you want (you can change the view to see thumbnails (again let me know if you need instructions on that). Once you find the pic, double click on it, and you will return to your original dialog box. Press the "upload" button next to browse to send it to this site. You will then see it listed on the dialog box under Current attachments.

that should be all you need to do, so when you close you will see:

Thanks. It's funny. Just now I went to try it and I had not seen all those icons before. Now, all of a sudden since I posted the question, they are there. Ok, I'll give it a try and get back to you.

Re: Posting pictures

Nothing showed up on my post.
I went to the paperclip.
Then I went to the window for browse for picture on my computer.
I double clicked on it.
I then hit upload.

There's nothing in my post here where I'm typing. Maybe it will show when I hit submit. Let's see.

Nope, haha What did I miss? Picture was only 27.5k so it was small.

Try it again, When you hit "upload" your screen will return back to the dialog box that shows the type of files you can download. Check two things, one being the very top of the dialog box and look for an "Upload Error" message. If that is not there, if not, check to see if you now have the "current attachment" right above the attachment key.

Let us know.

Smile Re: Posting pictures

1. From the quick reply box, I clicked "go advanced".
2. Next, I scrolled down until I found "manage attachments" and clicked on it.
3. A window popped up. In the window there is a box that says "Upload File from your Computer" with the buttons "Browse" and "Upload" next to it. I clicked on "Browse".
4. I window named "File Upload" popped up (see attached pic).
5. I then created a pic because I didn't think I had anything on my computer that isn't copyrighted, and if I do, I don't want to spend the time to find it. - You may skip this step.
6. From there I selected a file and hit "Open". The "Upload File" window closed and it brought me back to the previous window.
7. The location of the file then appeared. I then hit the "Upload" button next to it.
8. "Uploading File(s) - Please Wait" appeared. I then proceeded to wait.
9. When it was finished it said "clip2.bmp:
Your file of 469.8 KB bytes exceeds the forum's limit of 97.7 KB for this filetype." - You may skip this step.
10. I then used AnyToJpeg, an excellent little tool I dowloaded, to shrink the file, because apparently saving it in 256 color mode didn't do the job. -You may also skip this step.
11. I then repeated part of step 3, and all of steps 4, 6, 7, and 8. You may skip THIS step, too.
12. I got the message "th_clip22.jpg:
Your file of 106.8 KB bytes exceeds the forum's limit of 97.7 KB for this filetype." - Again, skip.
13. Repeated step 11. - SKIP!
14. Success! "Sum of all attachments owned by CandyApple: 98.3 KB" appeared!
15. Clicked on "Close this window", which not only disappeared, but brought me to a different tab, making me panic that I had just lost everything I had done.
16. Clicked until I found the correct tab.
17. Panic eased, finished typing this message.
18. Clicked "Submit Reply".

If you want to see it bigger, you have to click on it. That little image is just a thumbnail.

I meant make it bigger in the post. I've seen several pictures on here that were fairly large.

If you want them to show up bigger in a post you will need to upload them elsewhere, then post them here using IMG tags.

Photobucket is a free place to upload them, and it gives you the IMG code to just copy and paste here for your pictures to show up.

I tried photobucket, they require you to have a cell phone. I don't have one so I tried putting in my regular phone. It recognized it as not being a cell. haha

So, what is the best program to use to quickly resize photos?

Re: Posting pictures

Being a graphic artist, I use photoshop. I'm on a mac, so I don't know about what to use on a pc.

But, my photos come in at their regular size, when I use the mountain button and enter the http.

I would double click on the photo and see what program opens it automaticly...then look for a size feature on the menu.

I save the pictures I've used here as .jpg format.

Photobucket can resize them as you upload them.

I use the Microsoft Image Resizer PowerToy for Windows XP to do quick resizing. It gives you a resize option when you right click image files in Windows.

Hurrray! You got it. Now which way worked. Were you able to use photobucket? Or did the mountain icon work?

I haven't tried photobucket yet. I will have to check it out.

Re: Posting pictures

Okay this is weird. I changed the size of the image in photo bucket. Took it down to thumbnail because it kept placing it at orginal size. I tried web size first then placed here...placed at orginal large size. Then tried thumbnail. The large photo is the result.

www.photobucket.com worked like a champ.

I went to photobucket and uploaded my picture. Then over on the left it listed the path next to IMG. So I clicked on that and hit CTRL-C to copy that address.

Then I went to this system and opened a new post. I hit the little mountain icon. The box that appeared at the top showed http:// and it was already highlighted so I just hit CTRL-V and pasted the address. It put it right in the message but it showed up as the address. But once I hit Submit, the picture showed up on the post.

Oh, the first time I logged onto photobucket, it asked me for cell phone and wouldn't let me continue without one. But the second time I went back, it logged me straight on without even typeing anything in. Where you log in and simply said, "You are logged in".

Re: Posting pictures

In case someone wants an alternative to photobucket: I typed in ["free image hosting"] in Google and it came up with lots of fine results, some of which you don't even have to register with. One such is http://www.imgplace.com/ It has free hosting of images. Uploaded pictures are confidential and not viewable by the public, unless the uploader gives out the address to the files. Registration not required, but helps you keep track of your pics.

You've got your choice of hosting with places where people can browse your pics, and places where they can't unless you give them the secret code. I haven't used any image hosting places, yet, but when I do I think I'll use both types.

The program I used is called L-view. It used to be freeware, not sure if it is anymore. The large picture above was orignially 1.1 meg. Now it's 27k. And as you can see, it really didn't loose anything.

I think it was that size when I saw it last night recently after you posted it. Maybe you were just seeing an old version cached by your browser last night.

I thank you for the comment about my boys. I was on here and my father is teaching me a thing or two on how to post pictures. As for snow here? Not right now, was busy winter with it, and is expecting more tomorrow.

To let you know I do love photography, I stop by on the side of the road one time and caught the sight of a full moon with my digital. Also some sun sets.
