How Severe?

While most of us look to the states perhaps trying to find a new area to live or visit and want to know what it looks like and what there is to do there, I tend to think...what is the weather like? After many years of living in the severe hot temps of a Southern CA desert and having been all over the US at one point of another... I think I have experienced it all. However now living here in Western Wa I have had some new weather experiences.

Can each of you share what it is like in your own area of your state? What kind of severe weather do you experience during the different times of the year?

So I need more info on things to see on my way to wear ever . now if you throw in the weather for what time of year it will help in planning on when to go an what to expect good idea. Up hear in Minnesota today we are having snow winter storm something
Schools are closing nice out though about 30 suppose to get another 15’ snow should help with our yearly average as we been lacking. Good for skiing snowboarding snowmobile trails an resorts .

Re: How Severe?

When I lived in the Central Valley of California our weather extremes were dense fog in the late fall.Winter months and extreme heat during the summer, factor in some smog and not a pleasant thing to breathe

We now live in Southeast Idaho which is notorious for winds during any given season and of course cold, snowy winters. For some they feel winter last more than half the year, at times I feel it's too short

In comparing both, I'm glad we're where we are. I feel that I can always warm up, but trying to stay cool in those high temps. I used to live in was nearly impossible.

After driving truck for a few years with the husband, I can tell you that any part of our Nation can have some undetermined weather even by the locals standards.

Twisters are infamous in the mid-west and the south, however it's not uncommon for the entire state of Idaho to have five during the course of year. One year we had five in one day, in February!

Re: How Severe?

George... but what kind of severe weather do you get? Tonados? Ice storms? etc.... and approx what time of year?

Today the kids had a late start and are on snow routes... but here we barely have a dusting on the ground. But the road are icy. However I hear this isn't normal for March 1. So I wouldn't call this severe.

Re: How Severe?

Weather that’s a good one, on average end of Jan an maybe beginning of Feb. for about 2 weeks is the coldest with about 20 below . ice storm can happen any time from oct to April same with heavy snow . one year it started snowing on Halloween by trickier treat time you needed a four wheel drive to get the kids around, when it ended we got 36” snow , an one year we had a thunder storm in January .tornados can come may to sept .
Our hottest is around end of July beginning of august .95 to 100 maybe 105 for about a week or two . most of our heavy thunder storms come june to aug .
