Rv'ing/Camping (read before answ Poll)

I've been asked a number of times about weather, travel, for different times of the year. In several cases, it was because people were going to be traveling through in an rv or camping along the way. They wanted information such as camp sites, travel, shortest routes, most scenic routes, best places to eat while traveling, sights to see, history to see, and the list goes on and on.

Would people get benefit from and willingly contribute to a new topic, not just a thread, called RV'ing/Camping across America? Threads could be, RV/Camping parks, repairs, sites, travel routes, and such.

Just a thought. I lived in an RV for 6 or 7 years straight in 38 different cities. There's a lot of tips, techniques, hints, advice, that can really make RV'ing a pleasure.

Plus, it would really draw a lot of interest from the WWW if we did it right and kept it active.

I also lived in an RV for about 10 years. Finding good places to stay for a month or two is sometimes hard. Some parks only accept new RV's if staying more than a week or two. Stayed at a nice one on a small golf course with RV park...spa, laundry room. Would be nice for folks making trips to check out a state too.

I would be more than happy to give some suggestions and input of my experiences in different cities and states...it sounds like a great idea and I also believe that it might help with the states forum as well.

sounds like a good idea... i would like to learn more about it. we always need a place to unwind once in awhile and enough information about nice camp sites would be nice.

Re: Rv'ing/Camping (read before answ Poll)

Maybe for right now we can use the travel/moving forum, and if the RV/camping questions start coming in fast/numerous enough admin can create a new topic?

I think at this point there's just not enough activity for it. I voted other.

Re: Rv'ing/Camping (read before answ Poll)

I tricked-out a couple of busses and RV'd in them. One was a 42ft Flathead Gas-Mack with a 4x8 plexidome - all shaked out. I lived in that one for a while. Busses have wheelbase and ground-cleara ....... oh, sorry - I forgot - the thread. Yeah - the subject comes up all the time - in bunches of ways. That angles us more to a travel-channel - but I'm all up for that too - I like travel and stories of travel. Even the RV forum is cool - I've just never been used to going where they do - avoid the crowds.

I agree with this. Use the Travel/Moving area for now. If there is eventually enough activity and posts about it, I will create a new subforum and move all the relevant threads to it.

As per suggestions, I've started a thread in Moving and Travel.

Re: Rv'ing/Camping (read before answ Poll)

Like High-Country camping? Like cold weather camping? Here's something that works really well - especially if you're going to tent for an extended period with your truck nearby.
One of the most enjoyable winters I spent was in the snowy winter of 80/81 near large and frozen Lake Viva Naughton in SW Wyoming. While I had a pretty spiffy "SpringBar" set-up of my own, a friend had one of those really large, rectangular army-tents - the kind you have to take your own lumber for posts. Inside this tent, he kept a smudge-pot going pretty-near full time and for sleeping, whoever would stay would pitch their small tents in a corner of the large tent. It was perfectly comfortable as, while the interior of the army tent would be fairly warm, the added protection of the smaller tent kept the temperatures "just right". He could also open an end up and drive his truck in to keep it from freezing.

I believe it's about the same size and general idea. However, the only outfitter's tents I've been in are set up on decks - so, my exposure is limited.

Funny as hell tonight. I kicked back in a lounger and kind of dozed. Next thing I know, I'm soaked and can't get to the house fast enough. Before I got there, little white balls of ice are hitting me in the head. haha

Ah, late summer in Wyoming. Nothing like it. Get ready, blizzard due in a couple/three weeks - at least, that was usually the first one on the west side of the state - long about Sept 15,16,17 (all three - not one or the other).
And they wonder why we try and warn people about moving to Wyody.
Wyoming - where it gets so dry you need a sponge to live ... but where water is as big an enemy as the dryness. Takes a heap of learning to get by there properly.
Wood in?

Yeah, got about 6 armloads of wood in the house. Getting close. Walked outside this morning at about 5:30 and realized it was time to pack the shorts away and get out the bibs.

Re: Rv'ing/Camping (read before answ Poll)

In a way, living at the coast here is a bit like Wyoming. It's never been hot at night and now, it's getting downright cool even before sunset. Helps with the geographical change. Got the Ocean's majesty to take the place of the mountains. The beach's austerity to take the place of the landscape and the coolness to remind me of ........ but Hey, Fitty, Guess What?! Once it gets down to about 36 degrees, it ain't gonna get no colder hardly - while you will be below 30 in no time for a daytime - and a good 60 degrees colder than that around the New Year. HaHahaHaHaHaHahahaHaHaHa.
Don't forget to burn those pipes clean.
