Re: Your Favorite Vacation Spot

The best places outside the US that we have found so far have been Jamaica, York England, and the big island of Hawaii. We plan to do a lot more traveling once our daughter is a wee bit older. 2 1/2 is a tough age to fly, but we have already taken her to Maui, Cabo, and Victoria, BC. She even has a passport with a cute little baby photo.

Re: Your Favorite Vacation Spot

Oops, forgot the "why".

Well, Jamaica is "cool". There are tons of really pushy street vendors but you learn quickly to say no thanks and stop for nothing. The people are really nice and mellow, the landscape is beautiful and lush with spectacular waterfalls and beaches.

York, England is seriously old!!! It has a Roman wall that runs around the city that was built in 2 AD (or really close to that). Most of the buildings are older than the oldest stuff here in the US. It just has a really cool vibe to it and is a great town with a beautiful cathedral (York minster)

The big Island of Hawaii is pretty neat. I was shocked to see cactus and desert on the dry side of the island. It is not very populated and has every climate and terrain you can imagine. Volcanoes, snow, desert, lush jungle, waterfalls, beaches, black sand beaches, green sand beaches, and everything in between. No crowds, just a beautiful place.

Sounds awesome, PDX. I've always wanted to go to Ireland, Norway and Greece. Those pictures are beautiful!! We've only taken trips within the continental U.S. and Canada, but one of my favorite places is the Black Hills in South Dakota. There are so many things to do there and it's breathtakingly beautiful. My other favorite place would be right where we are living in Navarre, Florida. I'm a sun bunny and a swimmer...in Minnesota I was only able to do that about two months out of the year!

We were in Miami Beach when we were taking a cruise. We arrived early and spent an extra day there. It was November and seemed like a really nice place. Beautiful coral sand beaches. The Man-O-Wars did not look very fun, though. Would like to go back and drive down to the Keys.

If you have a desire to see Greece, you might want to look into Turkey. The Mediterranean side of Turkey is much like Greece but cheaper, has better food, and has more ruins. It is on our list and we are thinking in about 3 years spending a month over there in Europe and the Mediterranean.

Forgot to add that my wife has been to Ireland and said it is a great place!!!

Thanks for the info! Turkey sounds even better...I think the first place would definitely be Ireland, though. There's something so unique about the atmosphere, music and people that I would love to experience. I love the beautiful countryside that I've seen in pictures.

Where'd he go?
Just for the record - if you smoke a pipe and if you can't get any action with the opposite gender, try some Borkum Riff.
Seems ladies often think of their Daddy if you smoke Borkum Riff - kinda like using Old Spice ... and if you can make a girl think of their Dad - they'll often take a curious liking to you.
Next time you're feeling incredibly lonely, Mud, try the Borkum Riff - might go farther than money ... plus -- it's a big help towards contemplation no matter what's in your pipe ... and a serious man needs contemplative periods.

Why thank you TT! It is so refreshing to hear that there are no smartbutt, overly pedantic, borkum riff-smoking meshuggeneh academic-types or dumbbutt hillpeoples at talkstates, otherwise you would not be here. It's so good to hear that someone like you thinks of this as a vacation spot on line, where you can chat with all your fellow member friends.

Thank you Dufferz, for your eloquence and thoughtfulness. I was afraid TT would feel isolated or something - afeart he wouldn't be disposed to wiggling in, here at the table.

your welcome.

Obviously TT really craves the relationships he is building here because anyone who is on perm. vacation only does what they want to do. I think that TT was working very hard to test the members of talkstates to make sure he was comfortable with the people here before making close friends.

Sounds like he has at last achieved that result and we can welcome TT into our ring of on line forum friendships.

TT, you may want to re-intoduce yourself to everyone so we can all get to know you better. Welcome aboard new friend!

Florida to Seattle.

I think that it would need to be a compromise in that there is the Panama canal in between.

I think that is we both start boating toward the canal and make several stops at various ports of call, the list of "favorites vacation spots" could strongly be enhanced by our adventure... kinda like a blog on talkstates. Should be possible in that I can get satelite internet on the boat.

TT, what say you? I can get away from my corporation later this spring or early summer, but would need to be back for a trip with my family at that end of July to "our little cabin" hide away.

Hey, I could pick up PDX. He's probably a better sailor than all of us combined, maybe Rod Farlee and MyAzi could join us also. That would be a blast!

Re: Your Favorite Vacation Spot

I'm not sure I've taken a vacation at the same place more than once, with the clear exception when the vacation is set by visiting specific people. There are way too many places to see to decide on just one.

That said ... our honeymoon was in the Cook Islands, which was fantastic. And Maui was really nice. Both of those were pre-kids. Post-kids we've gone into the Canadian Rockies, and to Vancouver & Victoria BC, and to the Washington coast (a little burg called Moclips). And to places where we were staying with extended family or good friends.

Do you have photos of the Cook Islands? My friend went there for her honeymoon this past fall and there was some kind of protest and they were asked to stay in their room... then they left the room and were taking pictures of the landscapes and got a photo of some person of importance and were asked to turn over the camera and it was a hassle for them... Said after that they would never go back.
