Somebody will put me in my place if I'm wrong here - but Idaho is much like Wyoming and Montana and Utah and Colorado. The fall season is usually too short - and in areas where pine-trees are so dominant, fall just isn't the same as when you have multiple varieties of naturally-occurring trees. Still have leaves to rake for some reason. Pine-needles are also acidic and prevent many plants from growing around them - so, this also affects the spring season as, of course, you have blooming things but not the variety of lower elevations and more southerly latitudes.

Granted here in the Rocky Mountain States we don't have as much of a kalidescope of color as there is in the New England area. Having said that, we do have plenty of trees that turn and offer a pleasing view like the quaking aspens. Yes, you're correct in saying how short Fall is here as the snow can fall as early as mid-October, shortly after the turning of the leaves and often times before all trees even have a chance to shed.

Re: What sort of climate do you prefer?

I like it to be comfortable to go outside without bundling up too much or dying of heatstroke year-round. Sweater weather is warm enough. Not feeling intense urges to dive into a pool is cool enough.

There have been times when I've enjoyed very hot weather and very cold weather, snow, rain, cool air, warm air... Most every condition I've been in I've enjoyed at one time or another. But even though there have been occasions when it being cold enough to use the outdoors as a freezer reliably in Fairbanks has been awesome, and have enjoyed going out into the perpetually snowy weather, on the whole... it sucks. It ain't worth it. I will generally avoid going outside because I find it unpleasant.

If I never see snow again, that'll be fine with me. As nice as it can be, it's not worth putting up with the cold and unpleasantness.

Give me... well, I'm not sure what the ideal is, I guess it wouldn't have to be the same temp every day...

Above freezing in the winter and below ninety in the summer. Make that above 50 during winter. If I want it hotter or colder I'll go on vacation. :) I like fall (my favorite season here in Alaska), but skipping winter is fine by me.

I now realize that a change of season is best. I am so tired of the heat that Florida has. We had our AC on until last month!

Actually, for the most part, that's very accurate. But here in Sheridan, because we are below the Big Horns, we have a lot of low lying trees. Birch, Elm, Oak, and as a result have a beautiful display of oranges and yellows in the fall. But like you say, short lived. From the time they start turning, to snow fall is most often a couple of weeks or so. We do a lot of raking leaves on top of the snow. haha

As I once told a friend that lives in Florida. He asked me how the summers were up here. I told him last year, we had it on the 7th of July from 1 til 3.

Well, I think the operative word is "deciduous".

Lucky us. I think New England experienced the longest fall EVER. It started in August and it finally ended two weeks ago. Yeah, 4 months of SPECTACULAR WEATHER.

It's called luck and it ain't gunna happen again in my lifetime... Last year we got dumped on with snow.

I love rain and overcast.... not that I don't like the sun. But I feel more energetic when there is no sun.

I like overcast too. It's less annoying to go outside when it's cloudy. It's more "natural" feeling. The sun feels like this big lamp illuminating everything. in the clouds things feel more natural. I know I'm weird.

Hummmmm...

I LOVE THE SUN! I WORSHIP THE SUN! And I find it difficult after awhile to function properly unless I have had enough bright sunlight. It does wonders for my mood.

I think this must be a study of personalities... Do people who spend a lot of time on the internet like clouds? (Doesn't apply to me obviously)

How much sun do you want? Because in AZ in the summer the sun comes up at 5 am and goes down 8:30. It will also fry and egg on the pavement in a matter of seconds.

Love Arizona... We almost moved there you know.

Don't forget, there are other places other than the desert. Imagine the sun but without the extreme heat. Nice huh?

We are planning to build a winter home in Prescott in about 30 years...

I can't complain though AZ been good to my family and I. The heat some times gets to you but there is plenty of water around to keep you cool.

Go to photobucket and create an account.
Then it let's you browse for your pictures from your computer.

Add the pictures you want...

Then when the pictures are in the album, click the bottom line...
There are three lines to click on at the bottom of the picture.

I believe its the bottom one you click on...hit copy.
Hit the little yellow postcard then paste into the box.

Wella!

After being here in Florida for almost 7 years, I would rather have overcast and cloudy and a few sunny days thrown in.

Re: What sort of climate do you prefer?

Born and raised in the California Bay Area, I love the weather there. Just not the over crowding and urban schools. But back to weather...I like to watch the fog roll in over the green hills. Then roll back out again in the morning. Mid day sunshine. Drive a couple hours inland and you get that hot sun (115 degrees in summer) Or drive an hour to the ocean and feel the wind and listen to the waves crash against the rocks. Take a boat to San Francisco and listen to the seals of Fishermen's Wharf. Walk to China town and have spicey Kung Po Chicken (sp). I grew up there in the 60s-70s so let's not forget Berkeley (sp) and Telegraph Ave. Haven't been to any of those places in years. Most likely not as great as I remember it...through rose color glasses of youth:)

I'm torn. I like warmth when it's not in excess but there is no place with a warm climate that isn't either very hot or humid at some point in the year.

I like snow, but cold is a drag sometimes.

I like 4 seasons, but I also like a little more extreme at times. 4 season climates tend to get like 9" of snow a year - not enough! It's just kinda bland being in 4 seasons, because nothing is extreme, it's just so regular.

Your climate preferences?

What about the Carolina's have you thought of that?

If it were me I'd move to Florida. I like a nice tropical paradise.

Yes I like Az too! I love the heat and the sun but I am trying a new adventure in NC. I hope I don't regret it. The Lake Norman area is beautiful though and I always feel good when I'm there.

If I got to cold I would always head inland and temps in the summer would get in the 100's inland. With an hour or two drive you could get different weather on the same day.:) But I live in Valley Springs now not the Bay area:)

Re: What sort of climate do you prefer?

I totally relate to people who don't like too much sun. Bright light annoys me sometimes. I like a balance, some sunny days, lots of partly cloudy, and lots of overcast.

Colors look richer in the light of an overcast day. Everything washes out on hyper-bright days. And the most annoying thing of all is driving on a sunny day in winter when the sun is hanging out on the horizon for about 2 hours during heavy late-afternoon commute time, so you're blinded by it and can barely see what's happening on the road ahead of you if you're driving west or SW. Ugh. Give me clouds over that ANY day!
