| How Many of You Snowbird?
This may only pertain to retirees but are there many of you out there who live in the northern states in the summer and re-locate to a warmer (snow-less) place in the winter months? I took an early-retirement and now officially reside in Nevada having moved from Washington state. I spend the majority of time in southern Nevada but since I have parents and other family and friends in the NW, I tend to spend the summers in the Seattle area. Most snowbirders will keep their primary residence in their home state (northern state) and then either buy another place in a warmer state or use an RV to live in during the winter in a warmer state. Since living in what is actually the greater St. George Utah area, I seem to find the winters even slightly cooler than I wanted. I'm actually thinking of snowbirding in the opposite direction at some point. Spending the summers in the southern Utah/Nevada area and the winters in an even warmer climate such as southern Arizona ...Yuma or even the outskirts of the Phoenix area. The Palm Springs corridor could even be another possibility. So anyway, how many of you snowbird? Are there any of you thinking of doing it when you retire? I realize that most of you currently participating on this board as I write this are not retired but as this forum draws more participants, I'd suspect that retirees will start to participate. I know I've been keeping in PM touch with some retirees over on the C-D forum. --'rocco |

Well, I don't snowbird, but we did get some sunbirds that stay up in the dorms at BYU-Idaho during the Summer. Theis main homes are in AZ and rather than having a second residence here they rent from the dorms during the summer months. A former collegue of mine spends the winters in Portland, OR and summers at their home in St. Anthony, ID. Of course this year she got a taste of real winter in Portland in comparison to what they're used to having. |

I tend to pick the Tampa's, Dallas, San Diego contracts during the winter months and the Portland, Bath Maine contracts during the summer. So Yeah, I'm kind of a snow bird. Although, I'm only 53 and the winters don't bother me. My folks lived in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Come October 1. They was in the car headed for their park model in Apache Junction. Then my dad would call in the spring and ask if it was done snowing so he could come home. haha Never failed. Every time he came back, within a week we'd get a snowstorm. One year he said, "I ain't coming back until I know it's done snowing. He sat down there until June 1. Drove up to his house in the Black Hills. That was a freak year and we got about 10 inches of snow on the 4th of June.

| Re: How Many of You Snowbird? When I can afford it... I hope to but in a bit of a different way. I want one home but then want to go several places each year... hopefully a bit warmer in the winters. And those places may not be the same each year.

I had a job that had me travel all over the country and that's what I did, I bought a 5th wheel. Lived it in for 8 years. You'd think a person would get cabin fever but I never did. Course, I spend a lot of time outside.

We've been retired for 10 years now. I never was a snowbird and never plan to be one. My husband and I like our 4 seasons. When you get tired of one, the next one comes along and things change. We let the weather come to us, we don't follow it around. I might add though, that there are a lot of people in Pa. who cannot take the winters and go South for a few months. Ha.....then again, we see quite a few Florida tags up here in the winter. I guess they are escaping the heat. Isn't it wonderful that we have the choice to pick and choose?
