Being blunt: Young slim black female in Atlanta.. now gee... will there be any males who want to befriend her? LOL. Yes. Females too (depending on what you define as "friend" there).Atlanta is one of the "black capitals" of the U.S., so young blacks moving here sure aren't going to have any trouble on the social or work scene. Working for the airlines if you get in will mean you'll travel a lot as well. You don't HAVE to live right next to the airport (some of those neighborhoods can be dicey) so long as you get a place close to a MARTA rail station (our subway), as it goes directly into the airport. Now, the "controversial" part: I've known black people from all corners of the world. Southern U.S., Northern and Western U.S., Kenya (Africa), U.K., etc. I will say that many times over the years I have had black people from out West and from the U.K. make reference to the Atlanta black scene as "ghetto". I have heard people compare it to New Orleans, Detroit, Baltimore - this in terms of the crime rate, poor public schools, high number of people living in poverty in the inner city, drugs, etc. Atlanta has a lot of opportunity for blacks and there are some of the top black colleges and business here, but apparently, at least according to black people who are used to other areas of the country (or other countries), we have our share of problems as well which when expressed to me by them, did not make this a desireable place for them to want to live. That being said, on other boards, young black men and women say they love Atlanta as well. So, it just depends on what you find fun, what you like, or what you consider "too ghetto to handle". Blunt enough? | |
