How many of you can easily pronounce Hawaiian names? Some of them appear as tongue-twisters but once you take a few seconds to sound them out, it gets pretty easy. After all, the vowel sounds are constant. As a tourist, one could probably be excused but if you were to relocate to the Islands, would you feel comfortable attacking those names on a daily basis? One person I talked to said it took her almost 2 years before she felt at ease just giving street by street directions to somebody. --'rocco |

I don't do too badly with Hawaiian words...but that is because I had someone close from the islands. So I was exposed to it quite a bit.

ah, ok. but ya gotta admit that most of us have to sit and sound them out a bit before we open our mouth. Kalaauliilii Could you spit that one out immediately? I've got a bunch of longer ones somewhere. Maybe we can all post the most difficult Hawaiian names we can think of. --'rocco |
