What city will you be living in? I live on Oahu. You can send me an email. But you could rent a car until your car arrives. They might have military discounts. Let me know first what city you'll be in so I could further help you. And I think your 1yr old should be ok. Not as bad as if you had like an 8 or 10 yr old who would understand what is going on and can feel the change. And just to let you know, Hawaii is not like the mainland. Where it takes forever from one place to another. This island is small. We think that 40 min drive to one place is long!! So I think you should be ok...in fact, you'll be so excited to be here. You might not want to leave...I live in a townhouse area and we have a lot of military people renting. The ones I talked to, love it here. And they learned fast on getting around just because this island is small. The only bad thing is that it's so EXPENSIVE.

Just take one day at a time. Is your car coming with your household goods? Sometimes it doesn't really take that long to receive your stuff. We got our stuff in just three days in this last move. We were AMAZED!!

There should be some help there for you. Tell you husband to let his command know that you two are car-less and have a 1 year old. Many people should be there to help. If you have to rent a car, keep the receipts!! They should reimburse you for your travel expenses.

I would be willing to bet that your 1 year old adjusts better than you and your husband. It's really not that much different than the US, and your child is only 1, and doesn't remember much at the moment.
