What were your utility bills in Dec. 06, in Idaho?

Just curious...what the Dec. utility bills were for Idaho last month. I want to compare them to California. Since we are looking at Idaho to retire in.

Our Dec. bill was $450. Our gas was $250. or electic was $200. for a 1600 sq. ft. house kept at 68 degrees.

So what was your bill?

Izzy

Wow! That is really cheap compared to california. At least I think so. Didn't snow a lot in December in Idaho Falls?

We had snow and freezing temps. Not too many sub-freezing temps though.

dang that's low for all electric.

do you know what your cost per kilowatt hour is? In Seattle area it about 8 cents. The whole enron and californian energy disaster has added bout 3 cents per kilowatt hour. Ouch!

Ok, this should be fun to answer... not. Bear with me here.
On peak hours are 0.0926740
Off peak are 0.0340

They combine the total and then subtract 0.0024120 for a rate mitigation adjustment

Last there's a BPA energy discount where they take the aforementioned combined total and subtract 0.0192160

For anyone whose a math whiz, feel free to average that out ;)

They way it irons out is the BPA Energy Discount subtracts out almost what the off peak hours add up to.

I hope that made sense.

Just to put things into perspective... On the worst months, we pay $1,000 a month for our 2,000 sq. ft. office--and it does not include heat. Of course we have a lot of medical equipment we keep running constantly and they generate a lot of heat. But then we don't have to pay as much for heat either... But then we pay a lot in cooling even when it gets down to 10 degrees--as long as the sun is out!

I was definitely shocked when I moved elsewhere. Some places are ridiculously cheap and others are ridiculously expensive. Makes you wonder why there is not a bigger spread in the numbers c-d and other sites comparing utility costs between areas.

Re: What were your utility bills in Dec. 06, in Idaho?

Wow! A $1,000. bill. Okay, I don't feel so bad now. But does bring to light that living expenses (utilities and food) are a serious thing to consider when moving because it can cost as much as a car payment in some areas.

We pay about $650. a month for food & household products, for a family of 5 in California. I shop cheap...Winco and Costco...nothing fancy...steak is for celebrations:)

Izzy, I would guess that your summer power bills outweigh the winter ones?

BTW, you'll be happy to know that Idaho has Winco too ;)

Actually, this dec. was the highest bill we have had in two years. Summer or Winter. Our summer bill gets close to $300. during those 100+ months. But then we spend the evenings at the club house pool. So we turn the air off on the way out the door. By night time things start to cool off.

Re: What were your utility bills in Dec. 06, in Idaho?

Idaho Falls is cheaper than Boise because the Falls create a lot of Idaho Fall's electricity, so they get a break. We do level pay for our gas and electric and we keep our house at 73 in the winter and 75 in the summer. Our house is 1400 SF and we pay $48 for electricity and $56 for gas every month.
