Arrow Idaho Falls

What I truly enjoy about Idaho Falls, is mostly the location. Being in Southeastern Idaho we're not far from the pleasures of Jackson Hole, WY for both winter and summer outdoor activities, we're only about a three hour drive from Salt Lake City, UT and there's plenty to do right here in town.

We've got the Snake River that runs right through downtown Idaho Falls complete with a greenbelt path for walking or biking on when the weather is prime.

To make lemonade out of the lemon given us; growth, we have plenty of shopping with the Grand Teton Mall which houses big name stores such as Macy's, Dillard's, Sears and Penney's. Our choices of places to go out and eat has grown as well; Texas Roadhouse, Chili's, Applebee's, Johnny Carinos, Olive Garden, TGIFridays, Sandpiper, Jaker's, Pizza Hut, Papa Murphy's and many other locally owned places as well.

We have family that still lives in CA so the drive to there is not far at all, maybe about a day and half at best.

For outdoors men/women we have camping, hiking, fishing, skiiing (both water and snow), sledding, hunting, horseback riding, four wheeling and the list goes on.

For thos who prefer to stay warm and dry there is a 14 screen movie theatre that plays recent released movies and a few smaller ones that play either older releases or Independent movies.

Re: Idaho Falls

Is the river safe for swimming? Do you have many lakes within driving distance?

Yes, they are actual falls. We've even got a webcam on the city's website. I'll dig up some pics and post them hopefully this weekend.

Re: Idaho Falls

As for swimming, yes they have an area roped off during the season at John's Hole forebay, north end of the river stretch in town next to US 20, as well as Gem Lake located on the south edge of town.

Both areas also allow boating and other water activities.

Yeah, they better have a roped off area! John's Hole is not my kind of swimming area. I wouldn't want to get my head ripped off by a boat nor would I want to get sucked under by the strong currents. Let alone even want to swim there since the river is INCREDIBLY COLD YEAR 'ROUND!!!

Oh and you are not kidding! My one dog will only go into the water has far as she can touch bottom, good rule for the river. Anyway it's August and her frisbee went out past the rope so she wasn't going anywhere, I thought why not? Sheesh, now I know why not even in August it's like freshly melted snow!

Re: Idaho Falls

Do any of the lakes in the Bosie area, if there are any, get warm enough to swim in. What about the river running through Boise? Just how hot does Boise get?

Re: Idaho Falls

Boise gets in the 100's during the summer. The river isn't really for swimming, rather we use it for floating. Lucky Peak is a reservoir nearby and people boat and swim in it. There is also Black Canyon and Lake Lowell that are nearby. Boise is a great place and lots of outdoor activity is available.
