Smile Moving from Southern California to the windy city

Hey everyone

My family is moving to IL my husband got a promotion in the the windy city. We will live in the suburbs and just would like to know which suburbs are the best. We have been looking at Yorkville, and Aurora does anyone know about these suburbs and are they a good choices for a family? Thanks a lot.

I don't know much about Yorkville or Aurora, but I have always heard the best opinions about the North Suburbs of Chicago.

Welcome to the forum and good luck with the move.

Gosh, Chicago is the most beautiful city. I am originally from NY but when we visited Chicago for our son's boot camp graduations we were in the city.
It's so clean and in the spring the streets have flowers in pots. We even saw a man scrape gum off the street. How nice is that?

Re: Moving from Southern California to the windy city

Sorry, I know nothing about Chicago. But I will be visiting soon:

I have to get to Chicago for my son's graduation from Navy Boot camp. Do you think the airports will be shut down?? I leave Thursday, and my son's graduation is Friday, which I saw it will be fricken snowing. Fabulous... I then leave the following week Monday!! I have to bring the rental car back as my daughter and her dad will be going to the train station. Please dear God in heaven, don't let it snow and be icy.. scary
Living in Las Vegas the last three years and Hawaii 11 years before that, I have absolutely no snow driving skills. I did ride my dad's ATV in WA [Oroville] in December. Does that count??

Best advise I got about snow driving was that when you get your first snow, have someone drive you to a large empty parking lot and practice!

Seeings how your only going to be there one weekend. Follow this very simple rule of thumb. Half by 2. If there is snow on the ground, cut your speed in half. Double your stopping distance. You'll do fine.
